This episode was really good. Toei stepping up their game. The anime makes Oden more likable to me actually, comapred to the manga

I get why some people call him a Gary Stu or Oda self-insert. Oden is a all -in-one package and so totally over the top. At the same time he is a total kid which makes him kinda likeable (for me).
