Hand picked by oda from the curated list given by the studio, dumbass really think oda watch all hundred b or c tier actor casting video one by one, they really think there no actress in their 20s with slightly bigger breast can pass the audition at all for all cast. while it so obvious its to avoid one new holywood rules " no male gaze ". And yeah, oda specifically asked koby to be nonbinary if you really believe what they say....

Goddamnit, just say you guys happy with the choice since you finally able to see yourself representated in american media rather than this mental gymnastic ,labeling and namecalling bullshit.
ARABasta

By the way i still have the impression that by general audience this show will always be perceived as a goofy kid show. It will never have a success on a Game of Thrones/Stranger Things level

One Piece is a shonen series at the end of the day so of course the adaptation isn't going to be taken as seriously as an HBO show by general audiences. Stranger Things, Wednesday and One Piece all hit a similar target audience given those are the three Netflix shows that are big enough to get LEGO sets themed after them.

It's weird to downplay an already successful show by saying "well it will never be big as [literally the most popular show netflix has ever produced]".

But some people still hope it will get a similar success, thats the point.
The lego set happened because of the manga fandom, even if its about the LA version of the characters. But if i ask to some random american guy on the street if they know Stranger Things or Wednesday, they will know about those shows. But i doubt they would know about One Piece.
So,for the people who hope that this show will last 8 seasons or a similar number,i dont think this can happen

I guarantee you the LEGO sets didn't happen exclusively because of the manga fandom. If that were the case, Naruto, Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia would've all had official LEGO sets by now since those manga series are just as popular as One Piece if not more. The success of the live-action adaptation helped bring One Piece to a new level of mainstream popularity and the branding of the sets make it patently obvious they're primarily targeted at fans of the LA series (the character designs, East Blue iconography, Going Merry ship design)

No one said the show is guaranteed to make it to eight seasons, all we know for now is the show is successful enough that Netflix has renewed it through season 3 which is pretty good for a new show.

that's just power scaling for TV shows. Why can't people be content with their show's popularity ,why does it have to be the MOST popular?

Koby isn't non binary tho. Actor is afaik. Not character. Acting like someone you're not is basically what being actor is all about after all. I guess some people love making up reasons to be upset
Now this is the real strawman argument, you try to frame that i upset about koby actress being a nonbinary, rather then at people who do all mental gymnastic to defend obvious agenda and try to gaslight someone that they are wrong for not liking that. but hey its okay, im happy for you, i hope you can see your self represented more in media and have many amazing charachter you can related too~

Let’s be honest , this outrage over Vivi’s skin tone is just racism dressed up as “accuracy.” Oda has said for years (SBS Vol. 56) that the Straw Hats would be multi-ethnic if they existed in the real world, and Alabasta itself is inspired by Middle Eastern/North African cultures. Casting a brown-skinned actress actually makes more sense than whitewashing her.

And yes, Oda has final say on the casting shortlists, sure he’s not watching 100 auditions, but his approval is required. If Oda, the creator himself, signed off on it, then complaining it’s “wrong” says more about your biases than about One Piece.

Back to this racism strawman bullshit claim again. Stop defending agenda casting and hide behind racism shield, its easier for you to admit you like the cast because you feeling that way.

so where is it? Where the MENA actress youre talking about?

what a stupid take, see vivi and the actress pic, see the similarities? Casting fictional charachter based on their ethnicity is the Left idea, and im cool with it, in this forum before season 2 start i always support MENA actress, hell, if they doesnt want MENA people get good representation in hollywood, im okay with indian actress too, you can see my post history, BUT there ZERO reason to cast vivi like that, just google, "hindi/bollywood/india actress under 30", and you can see how easy it is to find the better more accurate looking cast, Or you want to say that, the country that currently has the most population in the world with english as second national language, they cant find 1 light olive skinned indian actress to star in netflix? Or do you have another more logical reason for why they need to find the actress with brown skin color rather then the lighter skin color from the same ethnicity for better accuracy? Cause i do, DEI Rules and Codes.

When someone ordered vegetables because meat are hidden in the menu, you cant make assumption that he likes vegetable and dislike meat.

yes, my bias is accuracy. Thanks you.

Because to last 8 seasons it must be THAT popular. But it wont. For me after season 3 they pull the plug. It also costs too much, filming in South Africa and with big sets, technological effects, many actors etc. so i think Netflix will focus their efforts on the remake of the anime,to get the One Piece fandom's money

Outrage over Netflix's very obvious bias against middle Easterners and outrage over the actress's skin tone are two COMPLETELY different things

Bollywood's colorist casting choices of the last decades is a whole topic in itself:saden:
Plus Hindi ≠ Indian. India is multi ethnic and, if we want to use this word, it's technically a multi racial country. (With a long history of skin color based discrimination to which the British added their own oil into the fire)

“Accuracy” isn’t your bias, it’s your cover. Alabasta’s world includes a spectrum of skin tones, and Oda himself signed off on this casting. If the creator’s fine with it but you aren’t, that’s not about "accuracy" that’s about your racism. (JUST OWN IT)

If your issue was really Netflix “avoiding MENA actors,” you’d be asking for more Middle Eastern casting, not tearing down an Indian actress who still fits Alabasta’s cultural mix. Gatekeeping which shade of brown is “acceptable” is bias.

I don't think you're talking about me. I never attacked the actress nor did I complain.about the skin tone.

There is nothing Indian about Alabasta, really. Its Ancient Egypt like Water Seven is Venice, Dressrosa is Barcelona etc.
We are not obliged to like that casting, if we dont. This applies to both Vivi and Cobra casting, both Indians. And Semmul Rahmammurty,as i remember him in "Heroes",wasnt really a good actor. But in all these years he maybe improved.
And,they probably will never arrive to Water Seven, but if they do,i am pretty sure they will do what Hollywood always does: cast latin-american people as italians! Its a classic Hollywood move 🤣
