More than likely they succeeded in their mission but their escape wasn't the best escape. But in order to cause decrease in morale, WG puts out the opposite report, that Sabo was killed.

I don't think Dragon order em to fight. Sabo probably decided to free Kuma on his own. More like Sabo underestimated em. And Revo are already at War with em.
