The man is clearly too ill and too focused on OPLA and other OP projects (movies, anime, games, etc) to continue working this way. Best thing he can do is just retire from art, finish One Piece's story as a long script (if he hasn't done so already) and hand over the script and art duties to a trustworthy assistant (*cough*Yusaku Shibata*cough*) who knows how to copy his visual style while all LOda does is supervise like he does with OPLA and the rest, otherwise we'll have another Kazushi Hagiwara or Kentaro Miura situation on our hands.

Moving OP to Monthly Shonen Jump would be ideal and would allow for more time in between chapters for him to work on OPLA, the films, whatever, and not fuck up his health, the problem is LOda nor Jump would ever allow it since it would mean a decrease in sales for their main bread and butter and so far nothing has really come close to taking the mantle of OP or Naruto yet to motivate Jump's execs from moving OP out. And if HxH after all these decades still isn't in MSJ, I highly doubt OP will ever switch to monthly.

I want to remind you what Greg said one time on X about Oda's quotes about his lifestyle and work: basically Greg said that most of the time what Oda said about his work hours is false. Because in Japan the work of an artist is almost considered a "fake job",not really worth of the same respect of other jobs. So artists usually to appear "better" for the japanese society standards,do exaggerate with what they say about their jobs, saying they work 24/7 etc. Greg also said that Oda sometimes is pretty hedonistic and parties a lot, like Luffy.
So i am not saying that Oda doesnt have health problems or that he doesnt work a lot, because we all know he does, and Greg didnt deny that either. But,the reality is probably "in the middle". His work conditions are not so bad as certain interviews made it seem.
But,this unexpected break is surely not a good signal, thats true.
Yeah I reckon most people think he sleeps 3 hours and works for the rest of the day lol
He might have done it a couple times throughout his career but then you have people who perform neurosurgeries for 20 hours or so
That doesn't make overtime any better but it happens, occasionally

(I'm not sure who Greg is, but) I've always found this alleged work schedule of Oda hard to believe for sure. Even if you believe it, it's not something to necessarily respect either, there's good arguments to be made that having a work schedule like that is counterproductive and just leads to loss of quality overall anyway.

Whether true or not there's clearly an incentive to make people believe the schedule, because it seems a lot of people's immediate reaction to these breaks is to be concerned about Oda's health rather than be upset at Jump and Oda as an artist. Which is positive in a sense, but we have no idea about the actual work environment there. For all we know he could be an absolute pain in the ass to work for and with.

I'm not apathetic to his health condition, but I think a lot of people are fantasizing a bit too much, especially when he has all the resources and tools, and the status, to reduce his workload massively.

Yeah I never understood how people believe that shit. It's impossible to sleep only 3 hours a day for years.

He need to take a prio, either keep doing side projects and making his health a problem, making the manga progres slower and slower or he cut all other side projects and focus on his manga and health.

The time where Oda focused on multiple projects should end. He is fucking 50 soon and that age is to old for a mangaka to have many side projects.

Opla need to the job alone without taking time from Oda and making him working harder.
Movies need to be writen by someone else.
Other side projects should be handle by Chef editor.

He should focus on his health first and second his manga.
Once he finish everything he can keep doing side projects.
One Piece is big enough as francise to survive very long even after the manga ends.
Best example is Dragonball..

Greg is a guy who is famous on Twitter (or at least he was until a few years ago) who lives in Japan, and at the beginning he was just a fan, then he somehow ended up working for Shueisha (i dont know if he still works for Shueisha though)

Actually, oda or other mangaka generally do work for 18 hours as they have to submit the work within few days.

It becomes more challenging if mangaka does everything by himself that is art and drawing like oda.

So, oda does sleep only for few hours for 5 days a week and then take one whole day off just to sleep.

After 3 weeks there is oda's break for a reason.

So, it's safe to assume that he's sleeping just few hours for atleast 15-18 days every month.

It's possible there were days where Oda slept very little but if he actually slept 3 hours every day, he would have collapsed of exhaustion long ago lmao
Nah it's not every day

There is whole schedule of Oda out there.

On an average, he sleeps for 3 hours for 15-18 days every month.

With one week he takes completely off to focus on family and other aspects
