But I can't really think of a politician that Ju Peter looks like. Some say Abraham Lincoln, but I don't really see the resemblance.

We tend to glorify nostalgia to the point we forget its dark side. Japanese animation is just a way bigger industry now than it used to be back then. We had hot garbage in the 80s and 90s, but it wasn't so much in your face since we had less access and we would naturally filter out the trash that no one wanted to see. Now that we live in the streaming era, garbage like Rent a Gf or whatever incest fantasy degeneracy that comes to mind is at the front and center of Anime culture.
