In all fairness I don’t think there was a betrayal as much as there was a lack of teamwork. Big Mom canonically just fucked off right at the start when the war started to fight kid Kuma and Iva for the fruits

And, a simple logical deduction says BB has to be related to some ancient kingdom figure as well.

Now, considering BB has dream of "King of the world" and also rivals luffy and then one can deduce that BB ancestor was once "King of the world" before IMU took it and he once rivaled joyboy.

If I have to guess then Ancient kingdom was once ruled by evil king - BB is descendant or reincarnation of him while Luffy is reincarnation of Joyboy.

VP refrained from passing judgment on who was right or wrong.

I think the more obvious answer is that the most technological kingdom was also the strongest and the envy of the Second World.

Perhaps the Ancient Kingdom hoarded resources, perhaps it was advanced because it consumed so much - whatever the case, the Twenty Monarchs felt threatened, and I think they either stole the Ancient Weapons directly from the Kingdom or the technology to build them.

I think we will learn almost everything this arc.
