We know Star Wars is a huge inspiration for Echiiro Oda, what are some of the inspirations or connections y'all can find between the two?

To me the most glaring one is the importance of the MC & his father in the overarching story of the world:

Darth Vader - the chosen one with the power to change the force/galaxy, and bring about balance etc etc. Immensily powerful with insane potential.

Luke - the chosen one raised by a mentor figure related to the father in an isolated location from rest of the larger verse. Then becomes OP and eventually meets his powerful father, who he had never even heard of until later down the line.

Emperor - The Immortal baddie in the shadows of the verse, more powerful than others by far.

If you look at the story of OP, Oda has a similar set up as well:

Dragon - Constant comps with Luffy & Roger. Insane hype compared to other top tiers. Constant emphasis on him shaking the world and changing the world. Immensely powerful. BUT unlike Anakin, he doesn't have an event that turns him bad.

Luffy - the chosen one raised by his grandfather and his friends, in an isolated area to protect him. Eventually will meet his father who he only heard half way into his journey, and will eventually take on the immortal baddie of the verse.

Imu - the immortal baddie in the shadows of the verse, more powerful than others.

Anakin - Luke - Emperor

Dragon - Luffy - Imu

Parallel stories of the Father & Son leading up to the eventual clash/fight with the immortal baddie. Except the father in OP isn't being used by the Immortal one.

Share your potential connections or things you find to be similar between the two.

It is weird but at this point OP will probably be remembered as something greater imo.

Star wars was something legendary and became a sort of cult for generations of nerd, when I was a kid I remember I liked it a lot, the prequels were quite good but were not regarded at the same level as the originals (even if looking back at them now they don't seem bad at all even for "original" SW standards). But then Disney came.. episodes 7 to 9 were so bad they were actually hilarious. I remember laughing loudly in the movie theatre at the infamous line "somewhat Palpatine has returned..". What made those films hilarious was of course the Mary sue Ray (the MC) but also the fact that Abrams made the first film, another guy made the second and discarded a lot of ideas of Abrams to instead put in the film some of his but then Abrams come back for the 3rd and last film and discarded the ideas of the 2nd film to go back to what he planned in the first movie... But there was not the time to put it in a movie so there was that line to explain that Palpatine was the big baddie lol, also I remember in that last movie they erased that chinese chatacter who was given a lot of space in the 2nd movie... To make it short it was a monumental disaster lol but everybody knows it by now. Then some series like the Mandalorian or even the movie Rogue one were very good but still imo that boat has sinked and can not go back to its prime, even because now it is Disney with that woke mentality that decides what SW is nowadays.

OP on the other hand is not what it used to be but it is still OP and despite everything the work Oda has done in these decades is something monumental if we look only at the magnitude of work he put in his manga, I think it is a unicum in manga history, other authors stop way sooner, downfall into the abyss like Naruto or simply have not the luck Oda had in this regard and get health issue to the point they even die (see Berserk). Also we are westerners and see the world from our point of view, OP has not much weight, as much as a manga can go, while SW is still regarded (or at least media try to sell us this stuff) as something legendary... Yet I bet that if you go to Japan it is the other way around do worldwide it could already be another story.

Very tenuous parallels here - not quite sure why you think Vegapunk being lasered is a profound parallel when dudes get shot or cut down by lasers in Star Wars *all* the time. Anyway, Star Wars (original trilogy) is largely based on the 'heroes journey' from The Hero With A Thousand Faces, which has become the blueprint for most modern long stories. Star Wars arguably popularised the format and shares similarities with almost anything you can think of. Let alone One Piece.

Star Wars is more universal in appeal - the only works of fiction with more significance in history are religious texts like the Bible, Quran, Torah... and then the biggest DC and Marvel properties (Superman/Batman and Spiderman/Wolverine).

Well oda sure is trying with all that nika stuff
To my knowledge , a vocal minority always are the one showing black lash in general when it comes to one piece. Where after sequels , star wars fandom is literally split in half. OP at least have some good mixed where as star was for most part is pure shit. Even obi wan show was mid and I am a prequel fan.
