Controversy is necessary in order to keep the gears pushing in any form of long running entertainment.
And Oda in the past years Jump Festa statement expressed his excitement on drawing the final scene of Wano Country Arc.
Now what that scene exactly is up in the air and can be any readers interpretation.
But if it is indeed the Hiyori scene, I'm absolutely certain this was not done unintentionally.
There's been little bits and pieces of characterization thrown around this chapter.
Momonosuke:
- Expressed the determination to surpass Kozuki Oden - a Top Tier combatant, leader, pirate, adventurer, and Daimyo of Wano who left the country (in death) in a Whitebeard-esque manner which is remembered by the people of Wano and his greatest enemy Kaido.
- Traveled 20 years into the future escaping the full frontal view of the deterioration of Wano.
- Adventured, fought, traveled with the Strawhat Pirates across several islands of the New World (the most dangerous part of the One Piece World).
Hiyori:
- Bit her tongue forcibly and co-existed with Orochi, the Beast Pirates, and upper echelon of Wano who had betrayed, abandoned, desecrated, and spat on the Kozuki name
- Expressed grudge against the Kurozumi
The conclusions they came to are very interesting.
Momo has no explicit hatred/opinion on the Kurozumi and has a very good relationship with Kaido's daughter Yamato as well as Tama (given that her parents were Kurozumi). Hiyori (in the event that this goes deeper) holds a hatred and grudge against the Kurozumi Clan akin to the earlier attempted genocide of the Kurozumi Clan.
This sounds familiar to the Donquixote brothers. They both went through similar persecution and came out on different ends of the spectrum.
One an insane pirate holding the reigns to controlled chaos.
And the other a secret Navy Soldier seeking to right his brothers wrongs.
If any of y'all read Kingdom, one of the major characters King Ei Sei and his brother (as well as mother) are few of the major factions early on opposed to each other.
Going forwards would a hypothetical Two Piece incorporate this as the major storyline?
Brother vs Sister?
Hiyori (a courtesan, princess) who has won great favor from her people and has bolstered the already prevalent sentiment on hating the Kurozumi's?
vs
Momonosuke (the Hero of Wano, Shogun, and adventure) with Pirate/Outsider ties and shogunate position?
Is One Piece capable of creating a complex structured plot like this or am I bugging the fuck out. What y'all think?
