The reason why Kid is hated so much is because Oda has no idea what he wants to do with him.
Law is portrayed as a rival of Luffy's. But Law's portrayal of a rival comes second to his portrayal as an ally.
All Kid has is his portrayal as a rival. This is literally the entire point of his character and he has no other dimensions apart from this fact.
This is why people theorized that the big mom fight would focus on Kid vs Big Mom, with Law being a support. Because he was the least developed of the three and his rivalry to Luffy was literally the only aspect of his character.
But nobody is allowed to rival Luffy and Law is like the 2nd or 3rd most popular character, so kid got zero development in act 3. He was portrayed as Law’s equal, but law’s attacks were much cooler and stronger, making Kid look like a support.
The fact that he went from appearing like Luffy’s rival to Law’s support ultimately made him the laughing stock of the fandom. Kid is kinda like Endeavor from mha, if endeavor never got any focus from horikoshi that explored his character any deeper than him being an asshole and a failed rival of all might.

In terms of portrayal tho, puncture wille is much closer to DP than Bajrang gun.
Bajrang gun not only created a massive crater, but overpowered Kaido in the process.
PW created a massive crater, but Law landed it while BM was off-guard. Yeah it’s powerful, but it wouldn’t work nearly as well in a 1v1.
DP was landed head on. BM tried to counter/block it and she failed. It didn’t do as much damage, but it was able to overpower big mom. Law never had to overpower BM because he attacked her while she was focused on Kid.
PW did major damage, DP was landed head on and overpowered BM; Bajrang gun did both

Bajrang gun>>>DP>=Puncture wille
in a 1v1, Law won’t be able to pierce a strong fighter with his sword. He will only be able to deliver an external shockwave, which won’t be as strong.
Overall the only way Kid could be popular is if Oda treats him like horikoshi did endeavor, and actually give him a spotlight.
it would be nice if hachinosu had Kid as a major supporting character, but not Law. With Kid getting a backstory and a major character arc like law did in dressrosa.
but imo that’s not going to happen. I think Oda has more or less canned his character, although I still think he could become a yonko by EoS and fight an admiral.

An injured Luffy got up to fight against an injured Kaido and won that 1v1 with the biggest clash shown in history of OP so far.
Kidd 2v1'd BM and won in an anti climactic bomb drop, where it was specifically stated "BM doesn't look anywhere close to death" prior to hell falling down with the outside factor.
Kidd didn't progress in the slightest in regards to most hyped factor (haki/CoC) of the arc. Despite being only SN other than Luffy to get one into time-skip.

And yes, I'm aware Kidd's attack looked prettier in introductory panel. But it looked like trash shit afterward (panel I posted). Bajrang Gun and Puncture Wille were glorious throughout.

You can pretend you're happy with Kidd's treatment lol. It's still fairly shit, man, and this is coming from someone who was rooting for him.
There's a reason why majority of neutral fans agree he was treated badly, and a lot of Kidd enjoyers (outside 3-4 hardcore ones) agree to that too. Not everyone has a hard on hate against the character. He literally was treated like shit in comparison to what he was introduced as lol

If Oda was smart, he would have had Kid appear in WCI as a major side character.
Not only would this have allowed him to take a spotlight and have much needed character development, as Law got in dressrosa, but it would have also directly set up Kid to fight BM in Wano. It wouldn't have even been hard. Oda could just reveal that BM had a grudge against Kid and paid Kaido to send him too WCI. Hell, Oda could have even made Kid the son of BM's eldest daughter.
Kid could have fought smoothie in the final act of wano, which imo would have made the final act far more tolerable. It would also make use of smoothie, the character Oda sidelined not only in WCI but in wano as well.

Yeah, I know Kidd is also not great. But he is doing his own thing, i.e. targets a yonko -> gets wrecked -> repeat. Law is a different story. We all know he is Luffy's underling. I cringe hard every time he acts like Luffy's rival these days. For example, when he also decided to jump off the waterfall or when he told strawhats they won't be friends in the future. This character has overstayed his welcome.
