The “Cracker had a matchup advantage!” cope is so ridiculous. Not only did Cracker have no matchup advantage whatsoever, it was actually Luffy who had the matchup advantage since he’s capable of eating basically endlessly

It's more like the Whitebeard Commanders set a too high expectation. It's pretty unreasonable to expect the same from the Beast/Big Mom pirates. Imagine picturing a Cracker/Jack trying to stop the Mihawk slash. Or Mihawk showing high regard to Who's Who or Sasaki.

I don't think oda had proper idea at that time of commander's power level. King and queen (king for most part) without going all out beat marco and doffy made jozu his chair. Then cracker gave luffy tougher match than doffy. And King has bunch of abilities like slashes , magma dragon , tempuro udon where all marco have are his kicks.

In retrospect he did. Admirals/Warlords > YCs.

Jack/Cracker were just fake hype. They all got treated like shit at the end.
