With Big Mom gone the Big Mom Pirates are currently without a Captain. Now the top contender is the strongest member of the Crew is Katakuri. But there is another contender in Compote the "Dark Horse" of the Big Mom Pirates.
The first Daughter of Big Mom. Depending on which crew members choose sides, they could be a Civil War within the Big Mom Pirates.

They would all follow Katakuri, Pero could try to stand up for his chance but nobody will really follow him instead of Katakuri, Kata is both better in power and character as well (if Pero is still alive and somewhat come back).

The only possible rival, but that is a distant second, for be would be Streusen as the cook of the BM pirates and basically an hidden YC, maybe even YC1 on oar or above Kata. But despite that imo he will keep being a grey eminence behind the curtain, even if Kata would most likely be harder to influence than BM in a way (BM was a mad psycho with tantrums which was both manipulable in a way but also ruthless when she get mad). Also since Streusen is most likely a "normal" character without any mental problem (well, the interaction between him and young BM could be a gargantuan problem but I don't think it would make a difference here) he could also left Kata be the new yonko as probably he is also his son, so he could even help him if that is needed at all.

If ANY of the Big Mom Pirates pick her of Katakuri, who ALREADY is not up to the task of replacing Big mom mind you, they are doomed.

People could want to take over (like Perorin) but 95% of the family would rather follow Katakuri off the clif than have then as captains.

Big Mom Pirates are no more. It's Charlotte Pirates time. If someone dislike this idea, they could just leave and start own crew.

Starting to think Buggy's original Cover Series, where his crew nearly gets eaten alive after being captured by natives on a random island, only to return with a woman beside him after being assumed dead is foreshadowing Kaido and Linlin's return.

This was already discussed by the BMP in Wano when they lost Big Mom. It was either Katakuri or Perospero. With Perospero out of the way, only Katakuri remains.

Perospero is likely long smart enough to know that in the absence of Big Mom the future of their family would best safest in Katakuri's hands.

I don't think that any of the siblings would challenge Katakuri's claim to the family's headship... not even Perospero. IMO, he just tried to pose as as the new head of the family in Wano because Katakuri wasn't present, but even Smoothie was able put him in his place.

And even if Katakuri is challenged, his faction is undoubtedly stronger: according to Flampe, he's the favorite brother of the family, and his direct brothers (Daifuku and Oven) are among the strongest members of the BMP.
