General & Others Pound living was ass tier writing

#22
Oven failed to kill Pound because Oda lacked the spine to actually kill him off and Pound escaped off screen because Oda lacked the ability to come up with a good explanation for how a character escaped from an inescapable situation.

There is no in-universe explanation for Pound's nonsensical survival. There is only Oda.
Except Oda has no issues killing off people when it is impactful, which this scene 100 percent was. So, that doesn't fly in this situation.

And let me be perfectly clear. I do not like the fact that Pound survived at all. I think it was a beautifully crafted death scene that was completely ruined by bringing him back. But I'm not going to pretend like there is just absolutely no reasoning as to how Pound could have survived. Oda left it up to the readers imagination, so don't get mad at me because I can at least look at the situation and try to make it make sense.

I did not say he lacked the spine to kill characters in general. I said he lacked the spine to kill Pound specifically.

The good guy characters Oda killed off like Whitebeard and Ace went out in a blaze of glory and were remembered in-universe by all those whose lives they touched

Pound's death would have been completely different in that his sacrifice would have gone completely unappreciated, with all those he cared for not remembering him and all those who remembered him not caring for him. It would have been a legitimate contender for one of the saddest moments in all of One Piece.... or rather it would have been had Oda not retconned it completely with an off screen survival with zero explanation.

Like I said, Oda lacked the spine to actually kill Pound and he lacked the ability to give a satisfying explanation for Pound's nonsensical survival.
Pound surviving was horrible and I think it's ridiculous for anyone trying to defend this horrible writing decision.
It is ridiculous. Nonsense can only be defended with even more nonsense.

It's okay to admit Oda just fucked up, right?

While he is great, he can also write bad chapters.

Finding out Pound survives via cover story like Bon Clay will never be acceptable.
he wrote too much bad chapters more than the good one these days :josad:

Don't forget about these scenes where it's clearly implied that Oven "killed" Pound.

If Oda didn't show these scenes then maybe I would have believed Pound surviving.

What I really hate the most about Pound being alive, is that Oda took such a great and sad chapter with Pound's "death" and completely fucking ruined it by revealing that he was alive in a cover story.

Pound being alive not only ruined chapter 887 but it also ruined Bege's cover story.

Maybe Oda's goal was to tie Pound's "death" in with the concept of dying when you are forgotten. Lola and Chiffon never knew about him, meaning he was never alive for those he cared about. Then he "died" and later was able to tell his daughters who he was, becoming alive for the first time since they were born.

Based on this, Pound living makes this concept even better to me. The execution was terrible, but only bc the scene was so dramatic and seemed like Pound really was dead.
On the other hand, Pound is a minor character and not worth getting mad at, even if everything about him were to be bad.

Nah, we at least know bb and his crew fucked up magellan, so one can assume they made it in time before bon-chan was killed or something.

Or my headcanon of him unlocking his df awakening that makes him able to copy df powers, i.e. magellans poison shit not being effective :P

But then again he is my fav character so there is a little bias involved here lol

Why did you make a thread about this?

The problems with the Pound scene are so obvious that anyone who isn’t delusional is aware of them.

What’s more interesting are the problems with the post time skip that are not immediately obvious but arguably much more damaging to the series.

Never seen the big deal about it. Didn’t think at the time that Oven was even going for a decapitation, it’s just an attack from behind, same as this

And Pound surviving a slash from behind is no surprise.

Now when Pedro comes back, then we’ll talk.
