General & Others Rank PTs arcs out of 10

Keep in mind that the reverie chapters outside of Wano do NOT count as part of the Wano arc

honestly the yonko saga is the prime of one piece

Here’s my ranking:

Reverie is 10:
greatest arc in OP history, everything perfect ( pacing , world building, craziest reveals, crazy mad hype.. what can we ask more than that?)

WCI is 7
Probably my second favorite arc in one piece even with all the flaws it had.. it just bittersweet... here my reasons:
- big mom herself as a character has beautiful depths.. a cunning over growing child.. a villain covered with colorful singing and delusions..
- big mom pirates as a whole, huge family , a tyrant mother, great designs etc living a wonderland made of cake... so creative and refreshing
- arc had nice pacing and countless cool moments enough to counter the bitter half of the arc

WANO is 6
-Pacing was ok .. dragged here and there but Since oden part ended pacing was on point
- beast Pirates are cool.. love the prehistoric barbaric theme.. king is so promising .. Queen is cool.. and there’s more to see
- ROCKS rebirth one of the best thing that happened in history of one piece..
- cool flashback
- and the arc is not finished yet so...

Zou is 4
Cool arc with ok pacing.. Rafael reveals and setting up arc so..

Fish man island is 2
nice reveals and ok story but bad pacing

Dressrosa is 0.01
Garbage

Punk hazard -6463
Why oda?

The benchmark I would say is either Arlong Park or Ennies Lobby so using those two arcs as 10's for a reference point, here goes:

Return to Sabaody & Fishman Island - 3
- Nostalgia is the main reason I give it a 3 and the fact that we got to see a few of the SH's powerups was also really cool.
- Didn't like Hody as a villain, thought it was just a poor copy of Arlong
- Fisher Tiger was a really cool character and I liked his flashback and I liked Otohime as well
- Shirahoshi was the worst character ever written, she had no meaningful contribution to the story and I hate that she was poseidon because that means we have to see her again.
- Sanji's nosebleed was horrendous
- Pacing was atrocious
- Return to Sabaody was really good and I liked the reunion

Punk Hazard - 4
- Not too bad, but too many gag moments really ruined it for me
- Vergo was an awesome character as well as Caesar and its always good to get more info on Vegapunk.
- Didn't like how Smoker was made so weak
- I liked Sanji's empathy for Kinemon, I always appreciate Sanji's kindness which is why I was so angry that he just left the kids behind in the next scene. Terrible writing from Oda to make another character look good.
- Felt really bad for the kids and I liked how Nami stepped in and showed her maternal side, the only time I have ever liked Nami to be honest
- Monet was a trash character but her backstory was sad and Tashigi was just pointless in the arc.
- Loved Sanji's entrance against Vergo but didn't like the fight and the infamous cracked leg
- Trafalgar was a badass!

Dresrossa - 1

- Too long and the pacing was probably the worst I have ever seen.
- Doffy was a good villain but not even he could mitigate the horrid pacing of this arc
- Hated how the SH's were split
- Cavendish was awesome and I loved his character, really hope we see more from him.
- The best part of the arc was that we got to see one of the best characters in all of OP, :myman:, Fujitora.
- Hated Rebecca who was just a Shirahoshi 2.0 but loved Viola and her interactions with Sanji. Nice to see a lady finally reciprocate Sanji's passion.
- Felt really bad for Riku and Homing and they were some of the best flashbacks I have seen in OP.
- Zoro's fight was pretty good (even though I don't like the character)
- I loved the formation of the Grand Fleet!
- Finally, Gear 4th was awesome!
- This is my problem with Dresrossa, there were so many awesome things to take from it, but the pacing was so atrocious that even those awesome character reveals it was still so boring.

Zou - 7

- Really solid arc! The pacing was so much better than Dresrossa and each chapter was a good read.
- Loved Inuarashi in it who was a badass and of course the reveal of Kaido's right hand, Jack!
- I thought the Minks were really good and with the atrocious reveal of the Dwarves in Dresrossa it was refreshing to see the Minks.
- Loved the bond between the Minks and the Kozuki clan
- I didn't care for Raizo's design but thought that it was funny all the same!
- Finally loved the reveal that Sanji was a prince and was really hyped to see his family (This feeling didn't last in WCI) and I loved how brutal BM could be! Oda really wrote that aspect of her character really well in Zou, she was utterly terrifying (Again this wasn't the case in WCI)

WCI - 0

- The worst plot contrived arc in one piece's history, because it promised so much and delivered nothing!
- The character of Sanji was butchered in WCI, and I thought that it was a disservice to all the fans of Sanji who had stuck with the character for so long. Sanji's entire character took a 180, from a badass and intelligent gentleman to a sniveling damsel in distress.
- Also, Oda hyped up this mythical evil army that terrified the North Blue and inspired the marines to portray them as evil to show the strength of the Marines and what did we get?! We got the Vinsmokes! A bunch of sniveling cowards whose patriarch, the man who was supposed to lead a mythical evil organization, who was, in the end, a weak loser. The expectations were for the Zoldyck family and instead, we got Team Rocket. If the marines wanted to show their strength, why would they pick Germa 66?! I could imagine the giants, or the samurai of Wano or something else, but instead, we got the Vinsmokes?! When you thought of a Scientific squadron, especially being a fan of the Power Rangers, and were instead exposed to the Vinsmokes, I couldn't help shake my head in disgusted annoyance.
- And in the end, Big Mom, do you remember that feeling of sheer terror for BM in Zou and Fishman Island, yeah, that went to crap in WCI, when we got a fat overgrown child, whose character was dragged out and spent far too much time in the mud. How is she even a Yonko?! Even Kaido has his quirks but you still feel like crap this guy's a beast, but BM brings shame to the title. Also, the idea that she would kill the Vinsmokes when nowhere in the past has she ever done that to any of her alliances was the height of plot stupidity. Good character designs but the women of the BM Pirates were treated like absolute crap.
- Liked Pudding's character and thought she was a good match for Sanji!
- Didn't like all the combat focus going to Luffy as well and again they suffered because the crew was split.
- I'll tell you what though Cracker is probably the best-designed character in all of OP!

Reverie - 8
- Great arc! Great Pacing! And I actually like the Raid Suit! So win-win!
- Every chapter was awesome and the reveal of the big baddy was awesome. I also liked Mjosgard! Also like how Chaton and Momousagi were made canon in the arc and how that gives so much more depth to the Marines.
- I didn't like how Ryokugyu was teased and thought it was unnecessary for the dragged out reveal!
- Didn't like Rob Lucci as well, you would think that after the Ennies Lobby fiasco he would learn his lesson, but he still seems like an arrogant punk.
- Stelly was pretty funny!

Wano - 5 (Pretty decent arc as of right now but a few things that brought it down)
- Love the character reveals and the motivation to take down Kaido!
- Also, Kaido is quirky but at no point do you underestimate the power of the man, something that should have been done with BM.
- The reveal of the disasters was awesome!
- The best part for me was Sanji's RS reveal, my man going to be tearing it up. Also after the fiasco that was WCI Sanji, this was in a very long time we got to see OG Sanji back. All his character traits were on display, his tactical wit in taking out Page 1, putting his crew first, his cooking, his sheer badassery, his compassion for Toko and his fighting ability. This was a big relief to me and many Sanji fans I am positive.
- Udon was like Dresrossa, full of pointless and horribly paced storytelling. Kawamatsu reveal was dragged far too long and was just painful to read every week. I don't really like Orochi but I can agree that his character is well written!
- Don't like Hyori/Komurasaki and the fact that a little girl is basically an apprentice prostitute. That is messed up on so many levels.
- My bid problem, too many things are getting off-paneled and the start of the war is being dragged out. I get the flashback is narratively important but we need to see the war asap. However, one thing I appreciate from the flashbacks is the confirmation that my man, Scopper Gaban was a prominent member of the Roger Pirates and a beast.

Saboady- 6
FI - 7.5 (tbh enjoyed it for the info it has, Luffy declaration, SH fight, blood bonding between Jimbei and Luffy, Poseidon, Fisher Tiger and Otohime resolve)
PH- 4 (worst arc post-TS for me but alliance, Law and Zoro being badass, Sanji vs Vergo made this upto 5)
DR- 7 (G4 revelation, doffy, viola, sabo, fujitora are + pacing put down the rating)
Zou- 8.5 (amazing no comments)
WCI - 7 (first half is awesome, Luffy vs Katakuri while it is awesome but it got dragged a lot and weddinggg cakeee part ruined this arc)
Reverie- 9 (top class)
Wano
part 1- 8 (Luffy vs Kaido, time travel and some build up)
part 2- 6 (Luffy learning adCoA, alliance, enma, kamazou being + and udon being -)
part 3- 9 (amazing fb so far)

Wano 9
Levely: 5
WCI: 3
PH: 4
FMI: 2
DR: 7
Zou: 6

FMI was fanservice with no substance.
WCI was a complete mess. it could have been great. sadly.
PH was not very entertaining. too much fooling arround. Ceasar should have been an easy capture.
Levely was ok. we know that the CD are bad news. no need to rub it in Oda. reveals were OK, rest was mediocre.
Zou was shit cause of the false suspense Oda tried to build. the Raizo thing was so forced as well. not invested.
DR was quite good. bad pacing. too much sidestory. dumb flashback. rest was good. fights and characters.
Wano is as good as any pre skip arc. good pacing except for Sumo and Udon. big reveals. small skirmishes. constant feeling of adventure.

Some rates here are very underserved...
Anyway

FI: 7-
The arc is full of gems. Fisher tiger and Otohime are two magnificent characters and Hody and his crew works very well as antagonists in their blandness (and VDD is very funny). Overall the showcase most of the crew power ups wasn't exactly as jaw-dropping as expected and sometimes this arc was straight up boring (even during the bridge read), the nose bleed subplot is really awful and i will NEVER forgive Oda for not showing the Fishman Karate dojo.

PH: 7,5

I like this arc, is just a prologue arc but the set-up for all the New world major plot is here.
Loved the amazing setting and the thriller feel that gave the arc: the hype and build up for Doflamingo, supernovas and Yonkos in this arc is something special.
The antagonists are clearly minor ones and the fighting scenes nothing special, but still fitting in what is, i repeat, a set-up for all the future events.
What i disliked about it, very much, is that Oda threw up all the tension, just to revive the G-5 soldiers, ruining not only a perfect and fitting sacrifice but all the sense of danger that was settled very high by Shinokuni; not to mention the Smoker treatment, i understand New world is a dangerous place, but why showcase it at the expense of a character of such a caliber?
Flaws aside Law in this arc was very cool, i mean genuinely badass and him cutting Vergo with his new era speech slammed on Doflamingo's ears is one my favourite moment in the series.
Honorable mention: the VERY funny gags and two (almost) confirmed deaths in this series.

Dressrosa: 8,5

Very difficult. I mean, is one of my favourites arcs and i'll rate it highly, but this is seriously worth an entire essay so i'll try to be brief.
Dressrosa is an arc full so full of narrative material, plot, sub-plot, great characters, themes, lore.
Here imho is packed some of the best and some of the worst this comic can offer.
Is enormous, gigantic: from almost every point of view... and there is something for every one.

Zou: 7,5

Loved the setting and the world: building: here finally we can foresee the end of One Piece.
All the reveals are pure gold, and the way the main villain was defeated was something very refreshing.
But overall is just a mini-arc (although a good one):

WCI: 8-

To much narrative content to go in details, the same as Dressrosa.
Thematically is arguably the strongest arc in the series: here Oda's as a writer, storyteller, character designer and in general, artist, gave his best.
Big Mom is a mastodontic figure, so much that she shaped the whole arc and that the very climax of the arc is a brilliant exposition of her twisted mentality, fancies, dreams and illusions.
What i expected from a Yonko, petty discussions about feats, portrayal and whatever is an enormous personality and that's what i got.
Sanji is really the protagonist in every possible way: he is put as the perfect contrast of the Charlotte family (which is imho the best villainous group in OP till date), his development and triumph mirrors the fall (from a moral point of view) of the latters.
A lot of honorable mentions too: Pound and Pedro moments, a great Jinbe and an even greater Capone/Bege, so sad that the arc is so unbalanced and that the cast is often handled in such a poor way.

Return to Sabaody - 8, loved seeing the SHP PT looks and seeing the Monster Trio run through some Pacifistas like it was nothing.

Fishman Island - 7, could have never lived up to all the pre-timeskip hype but was still a fun arc that felt quicker than it actually was.

Punk Hazard - 6, I didn’t care about the gigantification subplot at all and kinda wanted to see more from Smoker and Tashigi, but Law allying with the protagonists and meeting Kin’emon unquestionably kicked off everything we’re seeing today.

Dressrosa - 7, would be higher if it hadn’t dragged on forever or been the arc where the Straw Hats first split, but Luffy overcoming Doflamingo was an undeniably intense and thrilling battle.

Zou - 8, introduction of the minks, learning way more about poneglyphs/Kozuki clan, and the Beast Pirates making their first foray into the story were all great, but nothing tops Zunisha obliterating Jack’s fleet, SUCH a satisfying moment.

WCI - 4.5, I’ve said before that even a bad One Piece arc is still better than most manga, but man, this one really pushed that theory to the limits...could have been way shorter without missing a beat, Sanji’s presumptive heel turn was handled poorly, the other Vinsmokes were pricks nearly the entire time, the Big Mom Pirates (for the most part) looked like fools, and we STILL don’t have Jinbe with the crew :lusalty:

Reverie - 10, been a while by that point since Oda showed us how incredible he is at pure world-building, but there is SO MUCH packed into just a few chapters...beloved characters making their first appearance in many arcs, seeing the Revolutionaries making more moves than we’d been made aware of, and obviously, the Im reveal brought this series to a brand new level. Not sure if it was residual WCI fatigue wearing off or what, but this arc revitalized my love for One Piece.

Wano - 8.5 so far, would have liked the action to be paced a little better in acts 1 and 2, but everything else has been stellar so far.

Return to Sabaody - 5 loved the Rayleigh moment and the Idea of fake strawhats was funny.

FI - 6

Punk Hazard - 6

DressRosa - 8 pacing fucked it up but it's still way better than many people say.

Zou - 9 I love info-packed moments and Minks' ties with Kozuki, Roger and the Road Poneglyph were amazing for me + Zunesha attacking Jack and the VOAT scene.

WCI - 7 WEDDING CAKE was unbearable and I dislike the Vinsmoke, but overall the arc was much more interesting than I expected.

Reverie - 10 pure hype.

Wano - 8 can easily become 10 If the final acts really deliver it with Kaido's downfall.

Other than when it actually happened by force, I can’t imagine the Straw Hats spending this much time apart before the time skip. That’s definitely been the main culprit for the perceived drop in quality...Oda’s creativity knows no bounds for secondary characters, but it’s become responsible for a lesser focus on the primary people we actually care about.
Yeah but i can´t see an objective fault in that to be honest, it´s a preference thing. Oda basically had the crew grow incredibly close over the course of the first part, and then let them prove their loyalty and admiration for Luffy, and then had Fishman Island as the reunion arc pretty much.
Which gave us a lot of the antics, somewhat in Punk Hazard as well, until he had to move on to much bigger things and a lot more characters by necessity.
I think it´s something that was far worse in a weekly reading cycle than it will be once you actually get to reread.
And one can argue about whether a mangaka has to consider his release structure, meaning weekly, in his story (i personally do not think he/she has to, because the work will stand once publishing in a magazine is over) but One Piece was never the series to be consumed weekly really, at shortest with volumes, but better by arcs, but we are too impatient for that.

I started reading the manga around Water 7, so after Skypeia happened, and the reactions to weekly chapters was horrendous for that arc, but now it´s the best arc for some, while it´s still generally seen to be one of the best.
