It's just not very exciting
This is what it all boils down to in the end.

I have no idea what's gotten into Hara since Gyou, but the man has been stinking it up for years now.

The fate of a major state hangs in the balance in this battle, and it couldn't hold a candle to Bayou or Sanyou, never mind Coalition and Gyou.

Completely bizarre. The best parts of the arc concerning the first conquest don't involve fighting.

It would be pretty great if this was a prelude to day 2 which is even greater with the other states invading
The involvement of other states would elevate this arc.

Hara had the license and opportunity to make Han the battlefield of a Coalition War/Juuko amalgam. I'm disappointed he hasn't gone down that route or any other that would make this arc as exciting as it should be.

Even if most of the fighting involving the other states was outside of Han, that would have been interesting. The movers and shakers of China trying to intervene in this war of conquest, one way or another, could have done wonders for shaking up the board and injecting some life into this fucking world that seems content to just wait for their turn to engage the armies of Qin.

I think he simply got burned out or realized if he wants to finish Kingdom, he has to up the pace and the writing suffered for it

You probably know this better than me, but did his editor switch around that time? That could have been a major factor

It doesn't even have to be that good imo.

Hara could've easily expanded upon this battle, extended it to 20/30 chapters were we actually see what transpires on the centre wing.

That would've been fine. A short battle isn't bad perse.

By comparison, I think Chouyou/ Eikyuu are pretty decent.

I used to believe Hara was pushing the pace to get to a specific point and then slow down.

Now, I am starting to believe he just wants to end the manga before he's 60 or something.

It doesn't even have to be that good imo.
For the downfall of the first major state, I think it kinda should.

I won't speak for y'all, but this battle just don't feel as monumental as it should.

I'm getting Nam flashbacks at the meme mention of 20/30 chapter arcs.

Naw, bruva, we need at least 40-50. I think that's been the sweet spot for Hara and where his strongest arcs outside Coalition (100) and Gyou (147) have been.

That said, more than total chapters, I think the issue is that Hara just isn't good at one day battles. He can't adjust his pacing to them properly.

I don’t think defeating Han ever has to be a major arc. It may be the first, but it’s still always been portrayed as the runt. The other states will be bigger events
Nah, it's still a big deal imo. We're talking about one of the Seven Warring States that lasted for 150 years. Han might be the weakest obstacle for Qin but it's still a major deal. However, the battle is not good so far.

Of course it’s a big deal, but I don’t think it’s bigger than Sanyou or Bayou when you consider Han were never recognised as having top tier opponents.

More importantly, you’d assume that Yan, Wei, Zhao and Chu will all have much bigger wars or sagas. So if we’re expecting Han to be like a coalition war then what do you expect from the even bigger battles? Granted, I would prefer that.

Of course this war is still potentially not done yet anyway
