I'm still of the belief that Yamato existed for the sole purpose of giving Oda an excuse to dickride Oden every breathing minute of the arc.

As if the Oden dickriding wasn't enough already it literally manifested itself into a character. That's some powerful ass wank, may as well be nen powered.
