Yes she did because Ace caused too much damage in Onigashima and she was bored. But Ace was never a threat since the beginning. If Kaido and the high ranked were in Onigashima then bye bye Ace.
I meant the ones that actually have a chance to defeat Kaido but not good guys. Like Blackbeard with his dirty tricks, Shanks with his secret back up, or World Gov. with their resources came to kill Kaido. Who would Yamato side with? Beast Pirates or those guys? Assuming she can't leave either because of the hand cuff.
it does seem like their relationship is more complex than it is purely estranged, but unless this is all some 4-D chess strategy by Kaido to lull certain folks in the alliance into a false sense of security, it seems like Yamato truly holds little affection for her father and won’t stop anyone from challenging him, if not outright doing so herself.
The 4D chess never made any sense, Yamato's hatred toward Kaido is genuine.
The question is how bad it is. Like we know Judge and his son also had a bad history, got bullied everytime and locked, and the son ended up running away from home. But when Big Mom tried to kill the Germa, Judge's son still ended up saving them anyway.
So I think, in Straw Hats vs Kaido she will 100% side with Straw Hats. But if post battle, Navy or Blackbeard came to finish a weakened Kaido off movie Z style, I think she will side with Kaido.
