No one ever discussed whether Roger used his swords or not.
What comes into question is his fighting style is tied to fencing and slashing, and the databook itself says he uses shock waves to launch his attacks.

That's why Roger doesn't fit the swordsman criteria, he doesn't carry the swords code and cut things, that's why he was never called a swordsman, and you'll never see anyone call him a swordsman.

No the argument has evolved.

Before Asura it was : CoC users are not pure swordsmen. Now that Zoro is a CoC user too, the argument is that people like Roger used their sword like baseball bat rather than sword.

In short people like Zoro who does not send shockwave are true swordsmen but Roger is not.

Funnily enough, Daishikan which literraly mean « Great Dragon shock » is a powerful shockwave which use CoC.

Fujitora is a swordsman … he’s based on the blind swordsman Zatoichi (who is one of the best swordsman in the zatoichi world)
