As it has been indicated, Nusjuro was distracted by his anger and focus on Bonney for messing with the Pacifistas, being on Discord with his Gorosei buds, being under pressure from Vegapunk's message, and, seemingly indicated in this chapter, hearing all the voices in the Labophase simultaneously. Sanji was the last thing on his mind, and Franky, who was much closer to Sanji than Nusjuro, barely noted that somebody even said something.

The sword was already moving downward as Nusjuro is much taller than everyone there, so getting pushed down wouldn't even make sense. And why are you trying to use physics when we see him hit the side of the blade and not the edge? The impact point is obvious.

That doesn’t make Nesjuro deaf, and if Franky and Bonney could hear Sanji the idea that Nesjuro couldn’t hear him running towards him yelling im coming is absolutely wild despite us seeing this chapter he has solid coo. Even if Sanji was the last thing on his mind, acting like this was in any way a sneak attack is baffling since Sanji did everything in his power to announce he was coming and his intention.

And the attack was still stopped dead in its tracks; not pushed downwards which can only happen if Sanji his the sword dead on which were shown he does. If Sanji just pushed it down from the top of the blade, it wouldn’t have stopped but just redirected to hit the ground they were standing on.

But from Venus perspective it's a sneak.


Yes, sanji yelled Franky's name but even Franky heard it at the last minute (because next panel is sanji hitting Venus) and his reply was "huh?"


This indicates that yelling doesn't mean everyone can hear you on a battlefield. Some who are focusing on something else might not hear it at all.


And, we got exactly like this happened - Venus was too focused and already made the swing to cut Franky.

Even Franky heard at the end because Sanji called his name.

So, yeah it's a sneak attack from Venus perspective - not that he care about sanji hitting him lol

And to me a Sneak attack means a character is actively fighting sneakily to get an advantage since Sanji wasn’t doing that it just means underestimated Sanjis speed and just figured he’d be able to kill Bonney by the time Sanji showed up cause as we all know, Nesjuro didn’t care if he got hit. If Franky heard him Nesjuro was literally right there and should’ve been able to hear the same especially with his CoO he showed off.

IMO if Oda wanted to portray this as a sneak attack, it would’ve looked closer to the oven scene in WCI where Sanji actively wanted to avoid being seen but it felt more like Sanji wanted to make himself a target here to distract Nesjuro from Bonney.

You are under the assumption that everyone on the battlefield can hear yelling which isn't true.

Have you been in a situation of loud crowd?
Two friends standing next to each other might end up hearing totally different things because it's all about focus.


Venus being next to Franky doesn't mean Venus heard it.

Second, for CoO to come into play Venus needs to focus on it. If he's distracted on something else then even with CoO in loud battlefield he might not hear it.

Third, Oda didn't portray Venus as if he heard it. Until the end, he was focus on his sword swing.

So, in manga, where Venus had no reactions to Sanji's yelling is cannon - he heard it is headcannon.

It would make sense for Venus to hear Sanji but just continue focusing on Bonney cause any damage that he takes he’ll heal no problem.

Again, it’s how Oda portrayed the scene. If Oda wanted to portray the scene as a sneak attack, he wouldn’t have had Sanji screaming or he would’ve had Nesjuro react with confusion. When Sanji just came out of nowhere. That’s how Oda usually does sneak attacks.

Later, Zoro fought and got floored by King but awoke ACoC to finally beat him.

Now we have Sanji floored by Venus, time to awaken ACoC and follow the pattern.

Thinking of this as a "reverse rooftop" where Sanji got anywhere near the portrayal Zoro got on the actual rooftop is sheer delusion.

Don't take the character so seriously, it will affect your mental health.
