I have a theory that Zoro was beaten up by Kuma after he took Luffys pain... becouse Kuma mentioned that before he takes hes life he will make him experience hell.... Kuma actually tried to kill zoro after taking pain but wasnt succesfull so Vegapunk upgraded him
