When has a Big Bad been defeated by someone who wasn't Luffy?

Luffy hasn't shown any enmity towards Borsalino and literally doesn't care about the Sabaody defeat.

Mother flame + York + Kuma + ordering Vegapunk's assassination + trying to kill Bonney.

Borsalino doesn't even want to kill Vegapunk.
Luffy literally was the one who engaged on Vegapunk to prove himself. And luffy has failed to defeat Kizaru already.

Kizaru is a man much more connected to Vegapunk who’s trying to kill Vegapunk.

And now we’re shown that Saturn has a hax that keeps humans paralyzed while Frankys tech isn’t effected by it?

Cmon it’s pretty clear that the cyborg Kuma and ancient robot connected to Joyboy are going to be the one to fight Saturn. Luffy will need to finish his fight with Kizaru.

Stand by it. Saturn is a secondary antagonist but not as connected to the arc. Like Kuma and Vergo was.

While I think Kizaru still has a role to play in the narrative here at Egghead, I think it's clear enough that Saturn is the arc's big bad.

However it is worth keeping in mind that there's still the potential heel turn from Kizaru to look forward to. Unless Oda is aiming for a more nihilistic character arc for Kizaru, I doubt that the various winks and nods to Kizaru's internal conflict over his mission here and his acknowledgement of being just "a cog in the machine" won't pay off in some manner before the arc is over.

Better analogy would be Big Mom to Katakuri though in this case though lol. She fits mosts of the constraints you provide about Saturn here.

The issue is not necessarily that Saturn cant go down here, its about then what the WG manages to achieve by not getting Serephim and Mother Flame on their side, something thst is ultimately necessary for the WG to feel like endgame threats.

Also, this scene also seems to support that an escape scenario is still likely.

In order for an escape scenario to be the point, then it makes far more sense for Saturn to not actually lose here and command the destruction of the island

Hes still the main antagonist, but that doesnt mean he needs to be Luffy's fight. Spandam is technically the main antagonist of Enies Lobby, as is Big Mom in WCI

Mr morj made a good video showing parallels of egghead with skypeia and dressrossa. Made a good point about why saturn will be defeated in egghead.

An escape scenario isn't out of the question, but the fact that Oda made it a point to inform readers in-text that whatever is going to go down here at Egghead Island will shock the whole world and be remembered globally as a specific incident suggests to me that Saturn won't be getting much of any sort of proper victory here.

I think Saturn will succeed in killing the original Vegapunk, but aside from that, I think his broader goal of securing the island and Vegapunk's work for the World Government will end in failure. Whether it be by the Straw Hats defeating Saturn or by someone like Franky or even Vegapunk himself activating a self-destruct sequence to take out Saturn and his own existing work with him to the grave.

People keep saying this but the incident could be any number of things:

- Huge Robot saves Yonko crew
- Kuma does something drastic
- Kizaru betrays the WG and dies
- Vegapunk actually dies

I just pulled those 4 things out of my ass lol

Not only is Saturn the big bad, but he's definitely Luffy's main fight. Kizaru is down after taking one CoC attack from Luffy. He'll obviously get back up, but if Luffy takes the fight seriously and keeps using CoC, Kizaru will be way to easy of a win for an arc boss. He'll probably fight Zoro instead while Luffy fights Saturn.
