Chapter Discussion Shamrock is equal to Shanks

#1

People said that despite Shanks and Shamrock having the same genetics, Shanks had to be stronger because he grew up with the Roger Pirates and fought against other pirates , but this chapter completely debunks that logic. Garling states that the hardships Shanks went through as a pirate would only make him equal to Shamrock, not above him. In Oda’s view, the challenges Shanks faced while travelling and fighting match the training and hardships Shamrock experienced as a Holy Knight.

So if Shanks’ past with the Roger Pirates does not give him an advantage over Shamrock, then nothing that happened afterward does either. Fighting Mihawk or becoming a Yonko made Shanks stronger, but Shamrock kept growing stronger through his own training. Oda considers consistent training to be just as effective as travelling the world and fighting different opponents. This is the same reason Coby keeps getting stronger through training alone. He does not need to travel like Luffy to improve.

People have created this headcanon, that Shamrock’s purpose is to explore nature versus nurture, and that Shanks should be stronger because he was raised as a pirate under Roger. This is complete nonsense. If that was the point of Shamrock’s character, Oda would have introduced him much earlier in the story. Shamrock’s purpose is to serve as an endgame antagonist alongside Garling. He was placed in the One Piece contender panel for a reason. After Imu is defeated, Garling will move to take control, and it will become clear that he is the true final enemy among the Celestial Dragons. Shamrock will be Garling’s right hand, which means he must be extremely powerful as well. Garling is the strongest Figarland, above both shamrock and shanks whom are equals.

Facts. Shamrock can also be stronger than Shanks

-Dueled Mihawk to draw
-Fought Loki and captured him
-Clashed with WB equally resulted into a sky split
-Stopped Kaido that he put him on a pedestal similar to goated chars Xebec, Roger, WB, Oden
-Stopped MF War
-Negged an Admiral
-One Shotted a 3B post 2v1 Big Mom Growth Kidd

Meanwhile Shamrock has been playing petty games like his father.

Shanks > Shamrock in terms of their own stats is pretty obvious.

Shamrock + Awakened Cerberus might catch up to Shanks.

Shanks was aiming for an Oscar, but He forgot to Hide his True Power Level?
Garling is talking about what He believes, not what is actually True.
literally doing the opposite, he wants to show his power so he can rise in rank quickly and learn more

none of what you said even makes him stronger, those are just his feats, he aint magically getting a powerboost just for clashing with whitebeard. Shamrock has one chapter of screentime, saying "he doesnt have feats like shanks" as an argument doesnt prove anything. Those slave killing games is just a competition, that isn't his training, we dont know what his training is

You can make the argument Shamrock is possibly stronger than Shanks; Because he’s confirmed to be equal to shanks with two arms.

I would be surprised if oda killed off shanks, but if he did, I can only see two who would do it, BB or Shamrock.

I think shanks will die to blackbeard and shamrock will realise the error of his ways after he and garling are defeated. So shamrock will turn good, and that way even though shanks is gone, shamrock is still there and hes basically like shanks now

You can actually make an argument for Shamrock being superior because Shanks no longer has the Imu buff, assuming both didnt have it back then when it was stated they were equals. If Shamrock got the Imu buff while Shanks didnt/lost it, then Shamrock would be superior.
However, Shanks is the supreme copy, Oda will find a way to make him stronger, eventually, if he didnt already.

"Shamrock is stronger, but Shanks is stronger"

Shamrock will likely be of the same power level, so Oda can justify Luffy "beating Shanks, without beating Shanks". Instead of having Luffy lay a hand on his idol, he will come up with an evil twin. In defeating Shamrock, Luffy will prove he surpassed Shanks.

I disagree. Garling was treated like a Barbie doll by Rocks; even being immortal, he couldn't handle it. I don't believe Rocks could have easily defeated a truly Yonkou-level character. Rocks simply defeated Garling by a negative different, REPEATING: Garling is immortal. Shamrock has to be extremely stronger than his father to be on Shanks' level. Shanks was 24 years old in chapter 1167; perhaps he hadn't even mastered Haoshoku at an advanced level, maybe he hid his power. Shamrock shouldn't be stronger than Garling, otherwise he would have a higher rank than his father.
