Why would Shanks remember Buggy WB but has to make sure that is Marco as if it is his first time?

Nope Marco wasn't there... Neko went coz they heard Marco was WB (oden captain) commander...
Dukes only accompanied Oden when he went to Roger...

Also Oden left WB probably between 29-26 years ago.
Dukes were 9-11 y.o ...oden didnt take them clearly.

Either Marco was a small rookie and never seen on the frontline by Shanks at all
Or Marco joined WB after Roger death (24 years ago) Which makes sense . Oden was still alive until 20 years ago.
So yeah Dukes remember Marco from that time, Not when Oden was a commander in WB ship

Where do you see Shanks making sure it's Marco? He says, "OH! It's Marco of the first division." then he says "You want to join me?". Shanks instantly recognized Marco the moment he looked at him.

I see what you’re getting at but at the same time the way Marco & Jozu cautioned the crew to be wary of Shanks, it’s hard to believe that both were meeting Shanks for the first time especially considering Jozu says ‘His Haki is as incredible as always’. Even the way Marco chews Shanks out for knocking our his crew members could indicate that they’ve met before.

Shanks addressing Marco the way he did could be a case of both not having met in a while. Haven’t read the raws directly but in the anime, Shanks said and I quote, ‘Oh! you’re Marco aren’t you? Won’t you join my crew?’. Note as well that Marco’s appearance seems to have changed from how it used to be in the past.

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to assume Whitebeard initially created his crew with completely different members from the current ones and that all of them somehow left & then new members replaced the old ones. More likely than not imo, WB created his crew a generation later than the likes of Roger (a bit like Lilin). Also given, Marco is considered WB’s right hand man, I think it’s very likely that he’s been there from the get go even before Oden joined. Oden was 18 yrs old, 41 years ago & died 20 years ago so was 39 when he died and was with the Roger pirates when he was 37~ish & Marco was about 23~ish at the time. So Marco & Oden being on the same ship fits (Age difference between the two is kinda like Zoro/Sanji & Franky for example). Not to mention Oden fits into the current crop
of WB pirates as the previous 2nd division commander.

WBP were never a match for Roger pirates, the only ones that fought were most likely Roger vs WB and maybe Rayleigh vs Oden.
The rest was just chilling, much like Shanks vs WB.

Current example would be Red Hair Pirates. They got Shanks & Benn who can kill any other yonko duo except for BB Pirates at best but they aren't a stronger crew than the Beast Pirates in all likelihood

Hmmn, I personally view Shanks & Ben like Luffy & Zoro (a lot closer to his Captain than a typical pirate crew but not necessarily equals (imo) so I think Benn would high diff the other Yonkou’s strongest commanders. The Beast Pirates have a bit more hype with Kaidou but I’m personally favour the Red Hair Pirates as they are the standard Luffy has set for him & his crew to surpass.

Marco was on Whitebeard's ship when Oden was still there, which is why Neko & Inu went for his help. They and Marco are considered friends:

Oden was around 28/9 when he joined Roger pirates, and he was already a division commander on WB's ship. Marco at that time was around 17. Oden was then with the crew for 3 years, around the age of 32/33.

And while he was on Roger's ship, his status was the same as Buggy & Shanks' an apprentice on Roger's ship.

That sentence is off... Why would Shanks ask Marco if it is indeed him, if he knew 24+ years ago? !

Again he just says oh it's Marco.
