weaklings who are all criminals and bad people that he keeps around specifically to boost his image to other pirates. how was this not torturing barto before they killed him? he was going to kill him whether he accepted to betray luffy or not. they just thought it was funny how loyal he was before they killed him.
Shanks runs the underworld. Wait until the manga shows that he's got weapons trade, devil fruit trade, slave trade under his umbrellas lol. But its better he keeps the balance than someone else.
yeah lol. shanks' hands are clean because of what? mutiny? or is it just his crew doing what he wants?

It's starting to feel like that tbh. Even WB was turning enemies into crew members or affiliate captains. I think the problem here is we are seeing Shanks going up Against rookies with Wills of steel. Rookies who won't ever deviate from their set goal. So the possible cause of action really is to annihilate them. He is standing on Business. And mind you he doesn't go hunting for these kids, they are coming to him themselves.
Not at all. They only "recruit" strong foes to increase their own military power and otherwise crush them. They have no problems murdering and enslaving thousands of people, including non combatants, women and children. Kaido was completely fine crushing Onigashima into the flower capital, saying he could easily find new slaves.
As Yasopp said, "we still gotta teach them a lesson". It's not like Shanks has a desire to crush even his enemies, but as an emperor crew, they have to save their portrayal so enemies understand they are no pushovers. It was evident by Barto saying how soft (or naive) this emperor's group appears to be. If they portray themselves as soft, they signal to enemies it's fine to invade their territories. As Shanks said: "many rely on my flag. If I let that slide, people will lose faith in it".
Being in Shanks' position, you have to be ruthless to earn respect.
Compare that with Roger though, who upon getting mad just murdered Squardo's entire crew. That might be a little ruthless but even then, he was protecting the pride of his nakama. Not like he was invading some random island and killing civilians.

This is the true test that separates Luffy (and Roger to an extent) from all the rest.
Luffy turned hostile or indifferent supernovas Kidd, Law, Zoro, Killer, Bonney, Capone, Drake in to temporary or permanent allies.
Luffy turned hostile or indifferent shichibukai Mihawk, Crocodile, Hancock, Jinbei, Buggy, Kuma in to temporary or permanent allies.
Luffy turned hostile or indifferent yonko Buggy, Whitebeard in to temporary or permanent alkors (+ Shanks but that is different).
Luffy will conquer even the yonko at some point, he doesnt have to rule them only make them his allies when needed. Time will tell if BM or Kaido come back as allies. Perhaps partnering up with Shanks or even Blackbeard.
Roger in his time made allies of fellow supernova Rayleigh and Oden as well as yonko Whitebeard and Hero Garp (Luffy has Coby). Even Shiki fought for him. Shanks has yet to show us that he can do the same apart from Mihawk (his WB). He did try with Marco (Oden equivalent) but failed.
