Shonen overall, with some exceptions, became a total failure as genre.
The reason why I'm saying this is because another manga just ended, and the ending was just bad. I'm talking about MHA with it's awful ending, where MC stayed as side kick, and Urahara didn't became anything special too. This is another shonen failure, which became right now rather a rule, that just saying no matter what story is about it's ending will be dumb. Why I'm calling this as new rule? Well, we can count all long series that got bad ending: Fairy Tail, Reborn, Naruto, Bleach, MHA, Promised Neverland, Seven Deadly Sins and AOT.

Ofcourse there was few shonens that have decent ending, but they usually was w ritten by female mangaka, such as: Fullmetal alchemist, Pandora Hearts.
Also there was some exceptions, such as Kimetsu no Yaiba, Soul Eater, Fire Force, YuYuhakusho and Rave Master, but it didn't change the fact that shonens usually fails to deliver decent ending.

Also there are few shonens that are still ongoing, such as Black Clover and One Piece, but BC almost granted will fail expectations, while One Piece is failure already because it takes more then 1000 chapters and still is far away from ending.

Was the ending bad OR was the ending NOT like you expected it to be ?

Looking at your post. I would put my money on the later.

There are no production companies is what you're saying?!
Production compagnie will accompagny the author, propose some idea or give them feedback, sometime even tell them that said stuff can't work or said stuff might work better, but they won't write the story for them.

They are here more to be the voice of the reader.

And are quickly axed if the publishers don't think it makes them enough money
Yes, for small stories, sadly it can happen. But here we are mostly talking about big IP, those IP won't disappear just because of a little down of the numbers.

Yup, exactly ending WAS bad, Fairy Tail for example ended without ending, case it's get continuation in 100 years quest. Story ending is Grand Finale, which doesn't happen. And do I need to remind you how Isayama AOT author apologized again and again because how shitty ending he gave to us?
There are good stories and bad. Again I gave good examples of how story was written and bad. Mostly shonen is nothing else then money milking products. Great example of that is Oda and how he didn't finish One Piece after 1000 chapters LOL

No it was not.

Was the last war a little weak on the narrative sence ? Yes, maybe. Was it bad or was the ending bad ? Not at all.

Not really no.

Do you really think that Oda is making 1000+ chapter to the risk of not even finishing his own story, just for money ?

Yeah. There haven't been any promising shounen.
I feel they just need to use a simple plot but consistently deliver. No need to try something completely new and experimental. Such things they can only do if that's the purpose and they don't care about it's future.
