As far as I am concerned, I feel like we saw a LOT of Kid during Wano (and a bit before when he and Killer actually stood up to fight Kaido) from his capture to his eventual escape to the war where he ended up fighting Big Mom instead of Kaido who utterly defeated him. Though with Big Mom (and Law), we were able to see the height of his power--we were able to see something extraordinary: Kid's awakening. It was pretty damn cool, and together with Law, Big Mom was taken down.
We got to see sides of Kid I didn't possible. He is more than an angry, menacing pirate with a bone to pick with the world. He's a friend to his crew. He's a partner to Killer. He cares about all of them and they all care about each other. Kid is obviously rougher around the edges and that's alright. We also got a backstory for him (EDIT: AND HIS CREW) as well even though it was unfortunate that we didn't get to see it in the manga.
Unfortunately, later, the Kid Pirates got an upset which was startling and crazy after their huge win over Big Mom, but I wouldn't count Kid out at all. (I mean even then, we did learn some things that were neatly tied up in that conflict, and this happened a little bit before the halfway point of Egghead.) He's the other half of the coin of Luffy and he has some of the craziest willpower in the series. I 1000% feel like we will see Kid again because he may be down, but he's not out of the story. We will see him again - just not any time soon I feel.
I'd like to see Kid, for sure though. He's made his mark, and it's only a matter of time before he returns. When, though? Who's to say.
So, basically, yes. He should return.
