Haoshoku coating can do everything you can do with COA, just better:
  • Flow
  • Armour
  • Barrier
  • Enhance attacks
  • Resist/negate devil fruits

And COC is much more potent than COA at all the above functions.

Did Oda make COA irrelevant at the Top Tier level?

CoA matters if itโ€™s used with something that also boosts AP. For example Ice Glove from Kuzan and Gura from Blackbeard
But in both cases, using COC instead would be better.

A fighter with weaker COC cannot compensate via superior COA.

COC just subsumes COA.

Not irrelevant no, its still strong especially if combined with broken fruits like with the Admirals.

Good point. Yes. Oda basically changed CoA with CoC. Coc used to be irrelevant at top tier level now it is CoA.

Zoro's CoC is weak (can't KO all fodders) but has great CoA yet can beat King easily
Old retired Garp (whose CoC isn't powerful anymore, can't KO all fodders) but has great CoA still to match Admirals in a fight

So your argument is wrong

Katakuri was emulating AdvCoA/borderline CoC with basic CoA hardening and DF abilities.

It's all how you use them.

AdvCoC was necessary for Kaido specifically

BTW you don't need CoC to negate hax abilities.
CoC hasn't negated df powers (maybe only Roger and Shanks can do that with true adCoC

Law doesn't have CoC yet negated sick-hax

CoC doesn't do flow...flow concept from ryuo is used with CoC. So you need to know how to flow haki (ryuo) to coat your attacks with CoC

CoC : can boost attacks and be used as defensive force. Its pressure can destroy things (ice, rockets, rocks,...)
That's it so far

Don't think it was stated that CoC could negate df's or resist them. That's just haki. Also adcoc doesn't flow it just extends beyond the range of the weapon that created it. Ryou as luffy used it is haki doing internal damage. It's kinda like when you punch a line of bricks and only the 5th one breaks.
