Questions & Mysteries So why didn’t the WG catch Luffy sooner?

As a continuation of my previous thread: Luffy was a famous rubber man, he didn’t keep it quiet. Did they not in fact know the Joyboy fruit was rubber?

Why wasn’t he captured?
Didn't they say that at the end of chapter 1037 that even for them that fruit is legend? It shows that recently they became aware of it.
1. Either Shanks told them.
2. Im-sama told them recently.
:endthis:

because it's an asspull retcon. now move on. stop over analyzing a mid tier shonen. shanks got smoke bombed in the chapter 1 and no coo in sight. oda does not plan all this shit out like you all think :gokulaugh:
If the fruit was revealed to be Resin Resin or whatever else, GOda stans would have STILL found two panels (in a 1000+ chapter manga, hmm) where it was clearly foreshadowed.

I’m leaning towards the latter. Because if Shanks told them, they wouldn’t suddenly wanna axe Luffy mid Wano

They also say that the WG is after Gomu Gomu for 800 years and that the fruir hasnt awakend in all those centuries, so its clear the they already knew what it is for a long time.

Also there's the WsW plot and the comments of one of the Gorosei that the fruit always escape from them, that show they were after the fruir for all those centuries

Let's wait for 2/3 more chapters, or maybe even the next arc. It could be like Sanji. Apparently the WG and Navy HQ were sent to capture Sanji specifically Pre TS but Kizaru didn't say anything.

Everything you said here is true and I would have been convinced if there was not Enies Lobby.

At Enies Lobby, they didn't try enough.
Why am I saying that ?

Because remember that was a freaking buster call the WG send against Luffy and his crew.

But for some reason, only Lieutenants and Captains went on the bridge to fight the Strawhats Pirates.
The 5 Vice Admirals stood idle like morons.

Knowing some Vice Admirals can do Geppou, there is no explanations why 1 of those Vice Admirals didn't try Geppou to capture a Luffy half dead if that fruit was so important and that the WG knew about this.
reread the latter parts of Enies lobby.. its only after this arc Luma was specifically sent to retrieve Luffy

I don't understand what you're trying to show me here.

Like I said, during the Buster Call at Enies Lobby, there were 5 Vice Admirals, and they did nothing.
They stood idle on their ship like potted plants and only sent Captains and Lieutenants to fight.

Luffy was half dead after his fight against Lucci.
If Luffy's fruit was so important (and the WG knew about this), they would have captured Luffy on their own.

they could have but given how bug the gates of Justice are they would have lost em.. plus they could have followed with ships but Aokiji stopped then coz the fleet was wrecked..

this arc also shows us Luffy as a pirate was more of threat.. and they wanted to annihilate the crew with him.. but post Enies Lobby the command to kuma was "bring Strawhats head back"

Except there was a time window when they (= the Vice Admirals) would have been able to capture Luffy without any issue : between Lucci's defeat (Luffy was half dead in the tower) and before the Strawhats escaped (and before Aokiji gave the orders to give up).
In this time frame, they had plenty of time to do something.
Heck, they could even have intervened in the Luffy-Lucci fight to increase the chances to capture Luffy.

But they did nothing except watching...

Regarding the crew, Captains and Lieutenants were already taking care of them. So the Vice Admirals had widely the luxury of focusing on Luffy.

again you can make alot of assumptions and make it make sense.. like the point of the buster call.. the Marine's surety and under estimation of the SHP.. or the cockiness hence they were THAT SURE that the elites would take the SHP out.. etc etc
