Chapter Discussion Spoilers, chapter 1048

Alright so, the chapters finally out now and can I just say that the Hiyori and Orochi fight made me disappointed in Hiyori….I understand the fight most likely not over yet but am I the only one disappointed that Denjiro showed up? Of course I don’t hate Denjiro, if anything he is one of my favorite characters of the Wano arc but I was really excited and looking forward to Hiyori being the one to cut Orochi head off.

I know Women in one piece being like this is normal, but the way it was set up made it seem like Oda was going to allow it! He even made her have a well thought out plan since the day we were introduced to her!

The way Oda set up her having an emotional breakdown with her song and the mask she wore made me think, we would see a princess actually kill her villain instead of having it done for her for once…..

Nothing to do with hiyori. Oda hates women that's all.
Yeah…at this point when it comes to the women in one piece and Oda’s constant fake out deaths with a quarter of his characters, I generally feel nothing towards it anymore. To the point where I really don’t care anymore about Orochi dying now, I know everyone else is extremely happy but considering we have seen so many scenes of it, I’m just over it.

She had motive
Hes weak
He was trapped
Seastone nail
On fire

Literally no reason for her to be a damsel to be saved by denjiro

Like what was the point of the I'm a samurais daughter speech when she slapped him now

It was meant for the two of them to take down Orochi.

Last time, Denjiro protected Orochi and killed Hiyori (although faked).

This time, Denjiro killed Orochi and protected Hiyori.

What I didn't like about it was how it was executed, and how many chapters Denjiro went completely MIA that it became blatantly obvious he was going to save Hiyori.

I think it is better if it was actually shown that both Hiyori and Denjiro actually met beforehand and actually planned to lure Orochi out to take his last life. But that is not what happened.

Terrible writing.

Oda not letting Hiyori kill him is pathetic, but that’s a losing battle from long ago.

Denjiro coming out from nowhere after how many chapters of him being absent? Awful. Oda didn’t need to use him much, but he did need to show him doing something beforehand. Have him hear the Shamisen when Zoro did and start panicking as he realises Hiyori was the one who saved him. Then have him running around wondering where she is.

Not just completely absent then BAM there in the nick of time.

Also in general he’s not done a great job on the Denjiro Orochi relationship. It’s obviously meant to be that Denjiro got Orochi to beat because out of all the Scabbards he was forced to work alongside him every day for twenty years, hating that he was the Shogun’s dog, but Oda’s never went into it enough.

I suspect that there’s been some editorial feedback to Oda telling him the Scabbards have not been well received and he’s just to go through that storyline as quickly as possible. Seven of them (eight including Kanjuro) have gotten important fights but Oda’s rushed through them all. Kawamatsu‘s been ignored and Ashura was written out. Same applies to Hyogoro vs Hotei.

I’d believe the last bit but Oda literally called a chapter Raizo 2 chapters ago…

The worst thing is denjiro was part of the scabbards that took the orochi heads and moved on quick time cause they didn't give a shit. So this loses all impact
Considering denjiro the one who been under orochi all this time

He called it Raizo but most the chapter was dealing with other things and Jinbei did most of the actual cool stuff with the water. Like, Raizo’s only on three pages of the chapter and Jinbei was the focus of the big doublespread

Also to add to my point Kawamatsu really should have been involved there as well as a Fishman.

I think he’s treated Kine’mon quite well due to how long he’s been in the series, and I think Raizo is a bit of a favourite of Oda’s (he’s defintely the type to be an Oda favourite) so he’s given him more to work with, but overall the ball has been dropped. Perhaps it’s just because of how many characters there actually are, but considering the focus he put on them pre-Oden flashback and then post-Oden flashback I can’t help but feel he was told by editors to cut back on how much he used the,m.

Tbh I was joking lol but yeh I can see where you’re coming from. I couldn’t tell you what Kawamatsu has done in the story since Act 2 in anyway.

Kikou somehow is in the top 5 characters with most panels in Wano as well.

I feel like he’s toned back on them but he’s still trying to get people to care about them as well.

I’m interested to see what happens to Ashura Doji cause it’ll make more sense when we see his outcome cause he’s been offscreen for a good while now
