Back then return of Jedi was Universally panned . None liked the ending thats why Lucas wanted to do prologue events how Anakin was a Jedi Knight .

Overtime Star wars became a cult because Lucas opened a new movie universe that people build story .

I honestly don´t know much about SW scaling, but isn´t the consensus that Palpatine let Windu overpower him to get Anakin to turn evil?
