Character Discussion Tashigi is a wasted character

#43
We don't know that yet. Tashigi is part of the good guy, therefore her dream is progressing little by little in the background just like the Strawhats.
"dream is progressing in the background" is low key one of the biggest issues in the One Piece fandom. In any other other story the progression of plot lines would be shown and not only the results. This is not a dig against you personally ,just wanted to point out how Oda's manipulative writing has damaged the minds of his readers.

That is why Luffy is the main character, because we are always witnessing his development. It would be better if the other Straw Hats did not have dreams of their own, because when was the last time they expressed or considered their dreams? Aside from the comedic moment with Sanji and his fabricated All Blue moment in Fishman Island, I do not recall Brook thinking about Laboon or Usopp attempting to be braver. The strawhats essentially became cheerleaders by saying Luffy will be the pirate king every time.

Like you said. It is better to show than tell.

When I first saw her in Logue Town I was like cool, a female swordsman. She seemed to know her shit about swords too. So I expected her to become a strong marine swordsoman as the series went on but she just didnt. And I find it disappointing tbh, Oda really did her dirty. He perpetuated Kuina's claim that women cant become strong swordsmen. Whats even worse is that he made her into a Kuina clone lmao.

Also, everything she stated in this panel she has failed at first of all.
Oda's writing and treatment of female characters is one of the worst aspects of One Piece, and Tashigi is a great example of this with Oda keeping her too weak to really matter with a fight or ever pose a challenge to Zoro or any boss, and not expanding on her relation with Zoro, Smoker or another character that could be her friends or a mentor to her.

Oda is a sexist and proving that Kuina is secretly right. Which in a fantasy manga like One Piece should not exist when any person can be superhuman..

Anyhow good thing newer mangas like Spy x family, Kaiju #8 and more are representing great female characters and aren't just use as damsel in distress or weaklings.
I tried to be patient with Oda and to hope that he would eventually treat and use his female characters better and as real badass fighters.

I am sorry that it took me WCI and his awful treatment of Big Mom, Smoothie and the other Charlotte girls for me to open my eyes and see that he wouldn't change, Wano was the nails in the coffin.

I never expected Oda to do much with her character after her introduction, so i guess i'm not disappointed tho i agree with the title of this topic.

She wasn’t wasted entirely, helped produce one of the coldest moments in the verse:

On the other hand while you have characters like Dragon that have been wasted for 1100+ chapters, far less relevant characters like Tashigi weren’t going to be any better. Smoker is pretty much in the same boat too at this point. If you aren’t Luffy or Zoro or people who can hang with them in combat or in actuality you don’t really matter period.

That moment should of been a catalyst for Tashigi to train relentlessly to not be in that scenario ever again... but nope Oda had her do nothing. Like for real Oda could of show Tashigi using an air slash but have it not being large enough to cut through all the rock fist. Then deliver Coby 's epic punch.

Yeah, wano was indeed the nail of the coffin starting with Yamato and Oda subtle drop of Kinemon's sexism way back in punk hazard..

Tashigi is a good character. No bad or great. Good one. The story is not over she still progressing. She may still do all the things she promised when we met her. By your logic Luffy is a fraud because after 1000s chapters he still not Pirate King.

Even if it happens it wil happen offscreen, without us seeing her progress and feats. Tashigi is cursed to never fullfill her potential, like so many other female characters in One Piece.
