Speculations Tashigi's role: the only woman Zoro will ever fight seriously

#42
You can't compare Zoro's and Sanji's ideal when it comes to woman. The reason why Sanji treated woman like goddesses is because throughout his childhood, he got abused by his male siblings and his father. While woman like Reiju and Sora treated Sanji nicely. That's why Sanji is so chivalrous. Zoro on the other hand, always gets beat by a girl in his childhood. And then suddenly Kuina died which disappoints Zoro. And Kuina wishes she was a man because she thinks that a woman wouldn't be as strong as men. I wouldn't say that's sexism or anything. And in Logue Town where Zoro meet Tashigi for the first time, he reminding her of how she looks similar to his childhood friend. And instead of Zoro getting beat by Kuina, it's time for Zoro to show superiority towards Tashigi. I think that's very symbolic.
Yeah, and then in PH she pulled the "Monet is about to beat my ass, help me Zoro-sama"

I feel like you are trying to tell me "Yo, do you remember that girl back in PH who was no diff material for Zoro? Well, she is going to come back after Wano and she is going to be a mid/high diff fight for him." ☠️☠️
First of all, Tashigi didn't ask Zoro for help.

Second of all, Tashigi have her strong points and weaknesses. I wouldn't say she's anywhere close to Zoro but she's still Zoro's rival. Just like Law, King, Vista, Mihawk, etc.

How did you reach that conclusion that Zoro "looks down on female combatants" ?

Being of the view that on average/generally a male will be physically superior to a female = looking down on a female?

Big Mom is a female character.
See:
Zoro has never really cut down a woman before:
  • He crushed Mrs Monday with raw strength.
  • He was initially unwilling to fight back against Monet and only defended.
  • When she was about to kill Tashigi, he only gave Monet a paper cut and then overwhelmed her with fear.
  • He used the back of his blades against Ain.
  • Oda never had him attack Linlin either.
Zoro has cut down much weaker men than the women he refused to cut down, so yes, he is looking down on female combatants.

Zoro never cut Linlin either.

Did you miss the part where Luffy defeated 2 yonko commanders since then?
Did you also miss the part where Luffy and Zoro fought 2 yonkos? Zoro had Enma training and Luffy has CoC imbued attacks, of course Smoker and Tashigi are far away from their level, they already were but now it's not a bridge that separates them, it's an ocean.

Tashigi's best feat is almost dying to Monet before Zoro saves her and negs Monet on the spot but she isn't that far behind? :saden:

As I said its why you should not underestimate Vegapunk's genius. We are talking about the man who created the SSG which is a force strong enough to replace the Warlords. He is an expert in weapons including seastones meaning that he could give Smoker a more powerful Jitte and who knows awaken his DF. Like I wrote, Tashigi is clearly training hard off screen otherwise she would not have been to obtain either Rokushiki or Haki. However, she definitely needs a higher grade sword . I think its possible she got a promotion for rescuing the kids and exposing Vergo.

Luffy did make a point that they will fight seriously next time. In One Piece, small plot points can literally take years to be fulfilled. I think Oda has some big plans for Smoker and Tashigi especially if he intends to reintroduce them the moment he will show Vegapunk.

I don't understand how Zoro earned respect from Mihawk but Tashigi somehow didn't deserve it from Zoro

She was willing to die fighting zoro just as zoro was willing to die fighting mihawk, zoro just didn't respect her wishes enough because she was a woman

but it literally is sexism

Tashigi is much weaker than zoro, fine. But she's not actual fodder. Yet zoro is willing to cut actual fodder before he cuts tashigi or any woman.

Why does zoro give weaker men more respect than stronger women?
Not really sexism, it's a biological notion.

Zoro never cut Linlin either.
That is poor logic.

Zoro didn't cut down half naked unarmed men so your point falls flat.

In addition, just because he chose not to cut women =\= looking down on them ....that part is just your assumption

He fought Big Mom and was willing to let her die by falling into the sea. Did you see Zoro looking down on Big Mom in the fight?

Also you failed to answer the question, dies claiming that on average/generally mean are physically stronger than women (like Koshiro and Kuma stated) = looking down on women?

Zoro has never cutt down a female character the only time he did it was with a logia who could just regenerate it back
And that means he's looking down on females? Or it is simply that he doesn't want to cut them just like he doesn't want to cut half naked unarmed men

My bet is that Zoro do respect woman as equals. There is no reason for him not doing that only because of Kuina.

But I would say Zoro changed after spend so many time with Sanji. Now he has a little of his personality towards women. He rather not fighting them but has absolute no problem with fighting and even hurting them.

Zoro is attacking Tashigi and she blocks just fine

"HE'S ATTACKING A GIRL"

which is why Sanji gets angry with Zoro maybe for the first time their enmity starts after this moment..

This means they can clash before Zoro eventually wins bc he is a better swordsman. Tashigi can fend herself as she is physcially stronger than Zoro

@Momoheechulkabe9000 I am more convinced Monet held an executive role in Doffy Pirates given the chart where she is placed next to Vergo. She is more of a "freelance" agent and executive for DD. She did restrain Luffy and Zoro had to push himself to contend with Monet. Even forced to use haki himself. Again Zolotards wont admit how weak this looks. This makes him look much worse than Tashigi, and Zoro only finished Monet with CoC, ie we discount that bc it is not a battle won with superior combat stats but he more or less "won with his mind" as seen here he is not even above her, he is outright weaker

So I was thinking about it, and if you look at every fight zoro has ever had against a woman, even including Ain from film Z, Zoro has not taken a single one seriously. Whereas Zoro is willing to cut any man who stands in his way, he has never cut a woman, even if that woman was a horrible person, such as Monet.

I personally think this is important, due to one of the most important characters in Zoro's life, Kuina. Kuina wanted to be the world's strongest swordsman but didn't think she could as she was a woman and men are often stronger than women. To this Zoro rebuked her and told her that she was always the goal he wanted to surpass. Kuina was the last woman Zoro fought seriously imo.

I think that with her death, which occurred due to something so feeble as falling down the stairs, Zoro started to believe that Kuina was right about women. That they can't be as strong as men. This explains why Zoro has never cut a woman, despite cutting any fodder he runs across. Kuina's death engrained into zoro's mind, if only subconsciously, the belief that women are fragile.

And that brings us to Tashigi, a character who looks eerily similar to Kuina. After Zoro first defeated Kuina, these are the words that she told him:

And Tashigi is right. Remember the Mihawk vs Zoro fight? Despite Zoro being a literal fodder compared to Mihawk, Mihawk was willing to slash Zoro across the chest because he respected Zoro's wish to either beat Mihawk or die trying(he says this plainly when he gets stabbed in the chest by the dagger). This is the exact same wish Tashigi had when she fought Zoro. The only difference is that Zoro wasn't willing to give Tashigi the same respect that Mihawk gave him, despite the gap between him and Tashigi easily being smaller than the gap between him and Mihawk.

I think that the character arc Oda derived for Zoro will culminate with Tashigi being the only woman zoro ever fights seriously. Even if Tashigi is never going to be on Zoro's level, Tashigi will at the very least push Zoro to give her the same respect that Mihawk gave him all those years ago. In fact it might even be a parallel, with their fight happening after Zoro becomes the world's strongest swordsman, ending with Zoro slashing Tashigi across the chest and telling her to surpass him.

However, part of me does kind of want Oda to bring back Smoker and Tashigi as real rivals and have Tashigi actually push Zoro to go all out in order to prove that it is possible for a woman to be WSSM, but the way he's treated them post skip makes me doubt this will happen. Oda did say, however, he likes to bring back old characters and make them stronger, and with the SSG and vegapunk, who knows what could happen.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my ted talk
