More than Imu
More than Akainu
More than anybody else, Teach has to be the final antagonist. Thematically and just logically, it makes no sense for the final antagonist to be anybody else. For the longest time I was a supporter of Imu being the final antagonist as the final war cannot happen until after one piece is found. But the more I think about it, the less sense this actually makes.
Luffy is the sun god, Nika. His fruit most likely ties into the sun god mythos. Teach on the other hand, is the darkness. If Luffy will bring the dawn, then Teach will create the night.
In Ace vs Blackbeard, Ace's ultimate attack, dai enkai:entei, created a giant sun in Ace's hand. To which blackbeard remarks: "The Sun?? OR the darkness?? Only one of us will win!!"
The thing was, however, Ace wasn't actually the sun. Luffy is.
It is because of this that imo Teach has to be Luffy's final opponent. The other can be beaten by Luffy before teach or they can be beaten by side characters. Personally, I think it would make a lot more sense if it was Kid and Law vs Imu while Luffy fights blackbeard. Law is a D and with all of the build up he has had since the post skip, I think it makes a lot of sense for him to have a pivotal role in the final war. Alternatively, I think Dragon would also be a good match up for Imu.
In any case, while Luffy is the enemy of the gods, I believe that like Xebec, Teach will grow to be a greater a threat than even the celestial dragons. Worse than gods, I think Teach will legitimately aspire to be a demon of sorts. To plunge the world into darkness.
