But if you say that you can understand how people come to the conclusion that Shanks > Roger, and every time Shanks and Mihawk are directly compared in the story, Mihawk is given the higher regard, then it shouldn't be an issue if people claim Mihawk > Roger either.
Anyway, I don't think Shanks being stronger than Roger or even equal to Roger should be entertained whatsoever. Same for Mihawk unfortunately.
It was made explicitly clear that Roger and Whitebeard were the ones who stood at the top. The only time Shanks has ever been separated from other top tiers was in the "Do you think you're just as great as they are" panel, which included Oden who himself had been swatted away like a fly by Roger and was shown to be in awe of Roger/WB's duel.
But yes, I can see why some casuals think the way they do because Shanks gets inserted at random moments just to provide hype, and someone viewing the story without considering context would be much more drawn to those moments.

No mate in every instance they are depicted in the story
it goes out of its way to make certain mihawk is a better swordsman than shanks which the author leaves open as a grey area for shanks fans to argue he is more than fighting with a blade. its always done that but it has also given shanks better portrayal which is why this argument continues.

try listing those for mihawk and you will understand why its not in anyway comparable even though both are ridiculous.
