Yaoi and Yuri are extremely popular in Japan. We've had trans and non gender confirming characters, cross dressers and such in manga for decades. And there's Puri Puri Prisoner....(shudders).
Ranma was a great allegory for transgenderism too.
But yeah, it won't be as the forefont and thus aa massive as it in the West especially America ofc.
I cant see Japan fully ever fully embracing it anytime soon ofc.
It's more fetishised and treated as a joke in the mainstream maybe but there's niche series that probably handle it a lot better too.
Just yesterday I heard about mangas and stories with openly autistic MCs and such which was very surprising. I've joked that Shonen writing can be pretty autistic (in the Peter Pan syndrome sense especially)
and characters like Naruto are autistic.
But autism can overlap with symptoms of other problems and doesn't have be autism either ofc. I know some big Japanese creators are though and Japan is like an "autistic country" for me too.
Yeah that would have made sense too but he's confirmed a kappa fishman IIRC?
I’m only ok with LuNa tbh, I don’t feel any romantic attraction between them, but that’s just me. I have no problem with people who ship them, or anything else really
It's more to do with how Luffy and Nami have had a ton of significant emotional moments (like Arlong Park), plus little stuff like Luffy promising Genzo to keep Nami happy, or how Nami always turn to Luffy first as an emotional anchor (like the hug in Zou, which is when I first took notice of the ship lol)
Idk why Zorobin is a thing tbh, it is what it is though

No Kappa is not a type of fish lol wano is isolated so they don't know what fishmans are and just call them that, and Kawa also calls himself that because it's safer
He's actually a Japanese puffer fish
