That Udon scene was stupid as fuck. If Oda wanted to portray Luffy and Kid as equals why would he have Kid drown and look so helpless. Kid is just a Luffy foil at the end of the day.

And nobody is saying that he is not a foil to Luffy. Luffy is the one who will win at the end of the story
