you had me until shanks part. shanks is waiting on his island for luffy that said he will surpass him and give him the hat. If he starts helping him beat the yonkous, luffy will learn nothing and not improve.

Hm even if I don´t watch currently Pokemon version with Ash, it would be sadly if they change the protagonist with Ash... But probably is it a good choice and probably a begin to start a new journey with a new protagonist.
