So, Luffy isn't going to get up again.
After reading the last chapter, that shouldn't surprise you. He was on his last legs even before getting slammed in the face by a max-power club. To believably recover from this, he'd either need healing hax from Marco, or a monstrous amount of meat, and the necessary seconds to eat it.
As far as can be told, there is no meat to be delivered in the entirety of Onigashima right now, since it's on-fire, and Marco seems to be thinking about the people inside the burning skull rather than Luffy and Kaido on the roof, last we checked.
Honestly, reviewing the last couple chapters, rather than Luffy getting up yet again in order to defeat Kaido for good, it seems much more likely that Momonosuke does something. In terms of potential, he's the most powerful combatant left in the game (other than maybe Yamato), theoretically having all of the same powers as Kaido and a body similar to that of Oden.
Moreover, his conflict is the final inner conflict left to resolve in this arc. What will happen to Wano in the end is almost squarely on Momonosuke's shoulders and Momonosuke is still largely undecided. Moreover, we've get to see anything more than a silhouette of his human form.
This whole foray into Wano was his idea in the first place, and the central conflict of Wano's safety wont be there until it has a worthy protector once again; merely defeating Kaido wont accomplish this. Momonosuke (perhaps with Yamato's help) should be the one to finish this.
And then, to cap off our adventure into mythical japanese land and to answer the other final question of the arc: Momo should trap Kaido underneath the Island of Onigashima much like Sun Wukong was trapped under a mountain, since much like early Wukong from Journey to the West, Kaido's greatest problem seems to be an ambition to power untempered by restraint or morals. (It's a chinese story, but still important in Japan, and Kaido's design is clearly more chinese, so I think it still works)
Momonosuke being the one to finish this is the best written conclusion to be had here. At this point, it only makes sense.
Thoughts?
