While G5 is the peak of the gomu gomu no mi's power, so far we haven't actually seen the true power of it. Its strong, don't get me wrong, but kaido has hardly been fighting as seriously as he was in 1037 and 1042, with kaido using shuron hakke and his drunk forms to boost himself. With the final page of 1046, I think this is about to change.
Here we see Luffy using his powers to grab a thunderbolt. While lightning is a common weapon used by even weak characters like nami, I believe that Luffy's use of lightning will show us some of the most devastating techniques in OP.
I believe this technique is supposed to be Monkey D Luffy's version of Son Goku's staff.
By applying awakening to lightning and increasing its elasticity, Luffy will essentially solidify lightning into a weapon that can be wielded like a staff. Luffy is proficient in using such a weapon as he did so in his childhood days with Ace and Sabo. But this will be no ordinary staff. See, lightning moves at the speed of light. It is made up of highly energized particles. By giving it elasticity, luffy will be able to temporarily hold these particles together, but by loosening his elasticity(as he does with G4), it will allow Luffy's staff to stretch great distances at an insane speed.
Basically, by using a staff made of lightning, Luffy will be able to stretch at near light speeds. This won't be just a simple shock of lightning like what Nami uses, rather due to Luffy's awakening, the lightning will act as a solid object and hence do blunt damage. With CoA and CoC infused into it, this will basically be like taking a punch at light speed.
Ultimately, this will easily make Luffy top 3 in terms of attack speed and his AP shouldn't lag much further behind. As kizaru said, speed is power. This technique will be far stronger than anything G4 can use and will ultimately force kaido to use his awakening to keep up.
