Powers & Abilities The Mother flame created a hole that pushed the Ocean away and never gets filled

The implications of the physics of this are insane… the problem is that this is One Piece and the physics of certain feats frequently get ignored or just turned into a gag.

what do you think is more likely? Should we take the physics of this seriously, as in this is basically a reality warping Weapon, or is this just random gag physics with no implications outside of “this is cool” to Oda?

I think it's fine if we don't get an advanced physics explanation and just get it as "this is cool" sci-fi stuff.

Just like the gloves to touch light, this is a weapon that certainly displaces the water so it never gets filled again. If it was just a hole, it would already be a giant whirpool, but that ain't happening, it's Enies Lobby 2.0.

But this isn’t “sci-fi”… at best this is a magical fantasy weapon… “sci-fi” regularly means there is some level of physics involved

this is a legit reality warping attack if we are to apply any level of sci-fi to it but I think at best we will get a fantasy level explanation if we get one at all outside of “this is cool”

No lol

The weapon is definitely sci-fi, science fiction, a scientific fictional weapon. The thing is the setting is not sci-fi, so the setting will not put relevance in explaining the pseudo-science behind it, and I see no reason why it should (just like I can see how you would want it to). It's supposed to be Vegapunk's most advanced weapon, it's beyond our understanding.

This is relevant for the lore since this is what happened at Enies lobby, or better what was there before Enies lobby. And at this point it most likely can't be God valley since in the chapter it is clearly stated "greatest range in the known history" aka in the known OP history it has been used just this time. So it has been used in the void century to make Enies lobby. Or either, since the God valley incident is erased from history along with Rocks history then even that could be excluded from the "recorded history" line, yet old people in OP world for sire would remember it.

Didn't they say that York, or at least Vegapunk, made this weapon? It can't be God Valley's if that's the case, that's too soon to be Vega's invention.

So it probably really is from the void century.

That’s pretty insane if that’s the explanation. I wouldn’t hold Mother Flame to this feat considering how inconsistent Oda is with lethal weapons, but wow. Absolutely crazy.

I don't know but given the fact that the effect is identical and that Vegapunk was playing with technology from the void century that is either an ancient weapon or an ancient weapon made by Vegapunk retro engineering the stuff on the island, find the projects or something like that. In the end it could be a bit like for Franky and Pluton: the ancient weapon actually doesn't exist anymore but its project does and it was inherited by Water 7 carpenters all the way down to Franky, now it could be like if Franky took the project and made that ship

I don't think it's the Weapon that caused it
I think it's an OP World Rule that isn't revealed yet

This is what happens when an Island disappears without a Trace, not just Burned like Enies Lobby & Ohara
It's like this is Planet's Hidden Mechanism when one of it's Islands is "Gone"

Probably just made a power source for the weapon that already existed.

Mother Flame is probably one of the ancient weapons but "reinvented" (just like every other Vegapunk major invention comes from the void century) with the blueprints or something.

no this is is just nonsense fantasy

for example the Naruto universe is a fantasy universe. Like with literal magic ninja superpowers and gods and spirits and mana

yet if an attack from the fantasy universe that is Naruto caused what happened in the fantasy universe that is One piece, it would warrant way more explanation and justification than this

like the setting of Naruto being a fantasy universe doesn’t excuse something as ridiculous as this from needing some level of explanation

it’s just that One piece is not only fantasy, it’s gag fantasy… Bordering on like toon physics in a lot of places… So this is definitely not sci-fi… even the most Sci-fi Fantasy blended stories like Star Wars come with better explanations for such things than One piece…

and the massive hole in the ocean that cannot be filled by the ocean water around it?

We should care about things that Oda wants us to care, are the holes important? Most likely yes but we already have enough wiki readers trying to wank irrelevant shit.

Well, I couldn't disagree more. That some sci-fi settings do explain technology or that you prefer that they do does not imply any kind of need for it, nor has anything to do with it being sci-fi or not.

But this is not a compelling enough topic to stretch it further.
