Aokiji is an ex admiral. Shiryu was a glorified babysitter. He was just another lvl 6 prisoner when Blackbeard blessed him. Shiryus captain/master was afraid to fight aokiji and instead offered him an alliance.

To be fair nothing will ever beat the stupidity or the brain dead takes from the Zoro fans with the ZKK theory.

Shiryu being stronger than Kuzan well... to be fair to the Zoro fans it all depends when Zoro fights him. If Zoro fight Shiryu after Mihawk it'd make sense to me he was on at least Kuzan level if not higher.

That being said I don't believe that to be the case personally. I think Kuzan will be outed before Zoro fights Shiryu and will be defeated or killed by Blackbeard giving Shiryu the second strongest of the crew title back.

By this portrayal, Shiryu was near top tier pre-skip.


Now he's had two years to get stronger and in addition to that, he gained a hax DF. Why can't Shiryu be a high top tier? By the time Zoro faces him, he will be near in strength to prime Raylegih.
