Netflix really wants One Piece to be seen as their franchise. Part of the reason this was greenlit was probably so Netflix can sell merchandise based their own One Piece anime separate from Toei.

Toei still holds the distribution rights and made a deal with Netflix. They might not be the studio animating it, but they are gonna make money out of this. There's no way in hell they're giving Netflix any sort of merchandise rights. In a nutshell, Toei is still involved here.

yeah Toei just has the rights to the currently airing anime that airs on Fuji TV, Shueisha for this remake decided to go with WIT Studio instead. As for the distribution, Netlfix is mentioned since they were given permission to post the PV on their channel

Netflix just learned that One Piece is something that people will buy, so thay decided to create new anime from Netflx that will have great animation, pace and storytelling. SO anime> manga soon will became real thing.

How do you feel about Kazuki Yao potentially(most likely tbh) not being the voice of Franky in the new adaptation?
