You have a point about forms. Maybe Dragon form is really a shit one and his Hybrid form is miles ahead of it(human form to me still the strongest in terms of W's). That would explain a lot.
But you miss the part where Kaido got stronger over those 20 years. Maybe he didn't had drunk mode when facing Oden.
So Oden did a huge damage to Kaido and could have killed him easily. If that was poor chosing form from Kaido than that being. It seems Luffy got defeated in 1013 without using G4, so poor chose of him too.

Odens attack is only slightly stronger than Zoros no matter how hard wankers boost it.
Zoros feat is still more impressive since he pulled it with 30 broken bones on fully alert attack mode monster Kaido in point blank range.
Zoro got speed feat, endurance feat and attack feat at the same time.
Crazy that was before King of Hell.

both KKG and Togen totsuka knocked kaido to the ground
the difference is that current Kaido has awakened his DF and used awakening to recover from the attack

Yes, Oden did nearly kill Kaido. That's why Kaido ranks him as highly as he does, despite Oda showing us that he wasn't on the level of WB or Roger. The thing was, Kaido simply wasn't as strong as he is right now, 20 years ago.

While Kaido could have better countered togen totsuka in hybrid, if it actually hit, it would have done much more damage. As dragon kaido is much larger and it still made him pass out.

Also yes drunken Kaido has way higher defense as base luffy (no gears) was doing damage to Hybrid Kaido where Drunken Kaido tanked adv coc KKG. Adv coc KKG >>> Base luffy's punches

Lucci just used life return to reduce muscle mass. Kaido’s facial features are completely different in that form compared to his normal hybrid.

The changes are in the amount of Dragon-like features that are present in the Hybrid.
Nothing really says that it's an awakening "form" & only awakened Zoans can do that.
Kaidou is a strong candidate to be an awakened zoan - but as all Zoan awakenings, it gives them a boost for their physical properties.
There's no such thing as "Hybrid Awakened" form.
