I'm sure the novel only referred to the CoC most common ability to knock out the weak. The novel won't talk about the full capabilities of a power yet unknown to us, just as the Vivre Card only assigns those types of Haki to a person which (s)he has canonically shown. Also, Shanks might channel his CoC through his sword the same way Fujitora does with his gravity.

I don't think Oda would make such a big deal of CoC when it was just fodder control.

The novel doesn't tell us who forces Shanks to draw his sword if Shanks CoC is not enough. Does the novel tell us that YC forces Shanks to draw his sword if Shanks CoC is not enough? It only tells Shanks would draw his sword if his CoC is not enough against someone (could be Mihawk, other yonko, admiral).

So my post is not bullshit since no enough info from Ace novel so I still stick to manga panel.

Rookie ace was enough it seems. Shanks coc didnt work on him so he grabbed his sword. Now what ?

WB said Shanks came with his ambition in full effect. That doesn't mean it's all CoC is capable of. Or is Katakuri's CoC stronger because he did more damage? Shanks himself said he only used a bit of intimidation.

Haki power doesn't reveal to CoC only. Oda said Shanks can knockout 100.000 m people. If Shanks's CoC is fullpower then only Marco, Vista and Jozu also WB commanders were present when Shanks met WB face to face but there were WB underlings too who didn't get knocked out.
