Those Kingdom lads earn my remembering their names lmfao, even the relatively minor ones I remember those names.

The only reason I remember Hideo Kojima is because he had the confidence of Zac Efron in stating that he hits on older women, and I wondered to myself how many women this guy hit on who didn’t even realize he was a guy until he started hitting on them, lol
Idk what the Kingdom fanbase and scanlations got going on these days, but on everything I love, back when I used to read, half the cast would have different names whenever I looked online.

Character spoiler alert:
I used to have high expectations for Chad. Thinking he is the pure muscle of the OG gang: Ichigo, Rukia, Uryu, Chad, Inoue. If Ichigo is all balanced, then Chad is pure STR, and Chad's AP would be > Ichigo's balanced stats AP.
Then shit happened. Chad became the San** of Bleach. Him without his daddy's help.
That's taking the Sanji disrespect too far.

They eventually stuck with the Japanese names. I honestly can't remember the last time the actual Chinese names were last used. I think it might have been early in Dalkan Plains Arc, about 60ish chapters in.

Lmfao, he wishes he could be as useful as Sanji.

Those Kingdom names get me sometimes I’m not going to lie, Hara introduces motherfuckers named “Gakuhakukou” or “Jyoukaryuu” and I’m like, I’m going to forget that shit.

But low and behold, the characters end up being so amazing that I vividly remember them by their exact names. Gotta give Hara credit, he makes me eat up all the word salad he throws at me.

Titty Kubo on the other hand, I’ve only met like 10 characters of his and already I’m fucking up main characters like RUkia (apparently).

And even characters like Chad, I think he’s unintentionally hilarious but feel like Kubo doesn’t want me to think he’s funny, but actually wants me to think he’s extremely cool and manly, but he’s so fucking ridiculous I’ve spent most of his panels just laughing at him.

I mean how are you going to draw a 15 year old child bending a steel beam in half, throwing teenagers dozens of yards across the ground, fighting invisible ghosts completely seriously, ripping telephone polls in half and swinging them like swords and still expect me to take this character seriously lmfao.

I really think Kubo wants me to view Chad as an alpha badass but in execution he is a complete and utter meme character.

It isn't even worth remembering Ichigo's high school friends. They aren't relevant whatsoever and are completely forgettable.

I mean, who can forget such characters as generic tomboy, FemboyMilfLover69 and of course, lesbian the sexual harassment lawsuit? :feelsokeman:

I think they did switch the names around that time. I remember being confused when they stopped talking about "Xin" and suddenly Shin was the mc 💀

I just passed chapter 16, here are my thoughts:

The good:

So far I’m liking the soul society stuff. I like when the series is asking ethical questions about the nature of what the soul society does like with the mod soul. I like when the series aims a critical eye at the soul society even though I’ve never seen it yet, the soul society is already being set up as an organization that is flawed and sometimes engages in questionable practices. RUkia doesn’t see it appropriate to question the acts of the soul society, as appropriate for a mid-low level society member which she appears to be. She is someone on the front lines just following orders, while Ichigo as someone with no loyalty to the society is quick to question the society’s actions when he sees them doing things that are questionable.

This is good and the series needs to focus more on topics like this.

The bad:

I don’t give a single shit about the High School drama, this is the main reason I couldn’t get into Jujutsu High or whatever, I just don’t care about teenage drama or what the fuck ever. Seeing Ichigo act painfully clueless when the supposed hottest chick in his class is head over heals for him, yeah this shit is just tired and I’ve seen it a hundred times before. Ichigo’s High School classmates serve no purpose other than to give commentary on Ichigo’s life, making them feel less like actual characters with their own lives. I suppose Chad is an exception as he seems to have his own life? I guess? But as I said yesterday Chad is just so fucking ridiculous that he stands out from his classmates regardless.

Hollows pose no threat in combat. Seriously I don’t think there’s been one Hollow out of 4 that’s exchanged like 3 blows with Ichigo before dying, and none of them have done real damage to him. RUkia keeps saying “oh you’d better take Hollows seriously, it’s a miracle you survived fighting that last one,” but like damn, it’s apparently 4 consecutive miracles at this point because these Hollows are just insignificant to Ichigo in combat.

———

Overall the series is fine so far, I get that I’m still slogging through the early stuff to get to the real good shit so I’m not overly harsh on this series but also not exactly in love lol.

Ok, from seeing what you love and what you don't like, I am positive you'll love the future stuff.

This stuff effectively gets brushed aside. You get Kanki tier arse holes in the Soul Society that get tolerated by everybody else because they are useful and nobody cares.

This stuff gets doubled down on. Expect to see these teenage brats in places they have no business being in.

That will soon be somewhat fixed with the one genuinely dangerous Hollow this series has. After that, it is all special Hollows and Quincies.

You have about another 30 chapters of early stuff to slog through and then another 20 chapters after that before you see the actual Soul Society.

Good luck. :catsweat:

Alright my guys, I just finished chapter 32, and not gonna lie, this has been the hardest slog I’ve experienced in any manga. I discovered through google that soul society starts at chapter 71 and I’m tempted to just skip straight to that chapter, because god damn these early chapters are hard to read. Even speed reading has been an absolute trial.

I hear the manga pretty much starts with soul society but I’m afraid that if I skip these early chapters I’ll miss some information that I need for those later arcs but…yeah. This has been a struggle.

The manga isn’t bad persay, but I feel like I’ve seen all of this before but done much better. And most of the information I’ve been getting in these early chapters I feel will not be relevant ever again. With the exception of the Hollow that killed Ichigo’s mom, I feel like most of the content I’ve taken in can just be forgotten entirely.

Gotta take a break before I force myself to keep reading…

Bleach is an early Shounen so for sure there will be stuff you’ve seen before in it. I actually think chapter 50 is where it finally really picks up so you’re not too far off.

Tbh I binged through it quickly and don't even remember much from it. I think it was some stuff with Kon lol. I didn't skip it but like you said I pretty much forgot almost all of it.

Yep, Bleach has absolutely dog shit pacing and perhaps the slowest start of any big name shonen. The reason I didn't comment much on the Agent of the Shinigami arc before is that there was honestly fuck all to talk about. It was quite dull. I assumed back then that most of the stuff, events and characters in it had a point and would be relevant later in some way but they really weren't. Lel.

Kubo should have just killed Ichigo, have Rukia send him to the Soul Society and explore the afterlife of Bleach through Ichigo climbing the Shinigami ranks as an afterlife recruit but alas, regular world high school shenanigans were deemed more important for some reason.

Unfortunately, you have already read the slowest bits of it. You need to meet Uryu which happens in the next mini arc of the first arc.

You at the point where Ichigo meets Don Kanonji are you?

Wait chapter 32 and still no Uryu?? What was going on for 32 chapters 😭

My last revisit was the anime I could swear Uryu showed up a couple eps in.

Lol. There is like a half dozen mini arcs that make up the first arc (Agent of the Shinigami) that when I last checked, clocked in at 50 chapters with Uryu being the last thing to happen.

From what I remember, it goes;
I) Ichigo meets Rukia.
II) Ichigo deals with Orihime's brother.
III) Ichigo and Chad protect the haunted parakeet from Shrieker.
IV) Ichigo meets Kon.
V) Ichigo vs Grand Fisher.
VI) Ichigo meets Don Kanonji.
VII) Ichigo meets Uryu.

Then the Soul Society Arc finally starts but it takes like another 20 chapters to actually see the Soul Society itself.

It literally takes 70 fucking chapters before you actually see the Soul Society. :catcry:

I just finished his arc, speedread the shit out of it but it counts I guess. I didn’t give a single fuck about him. Lol
Well it is good that you don't care for him because Don Kanonji is literally a canon filler character. That entire mini arc of his could be removed and literally nothing of even slight importance would change. He only comes back one more time in the worst part of the Arrancar Arc.

I have no clue as to why Kubo added him. Closest thing I can think of is that Kubo just wanted a sort of gag character that is like Hercule Satan from Dragon Ball.

Funny thing is that I remember liking him back when I first met him. He had a well intentioned heroic spirit that I respected. Much like most of the early cast though, the bloke is fundamentally useless.

If I had to make a reach to defend his presence in the story then maybe he is there to inspire Ichigo to be more heroic? Lol. Like I said, bit of a reach since it shouldn't take a mini arc and a new character created solely for that purpose just to make Ichigo "more" heroic considering he isn't particularly unheroic to begin with.

Next up as I recall is meeting Uryu. He is kinda like the Trafalgar Law of Bleach except more lame. :doffytroll:
