This Ashura horse was based on Sleipnir which was Odins sted and Odin lost his one eye just like Zoro. Odins name also parallels with Oden which Zoro take Enma and declared he will become king of hell. Sleipnir can go to other dimensions so with this DF Zoro can literally make his dream come true. Since Zoro can't ride a horse and fight eating Sleipnir DF is his only choice, this horse is designed for Zoro anyway if not why would Oda make a 8 legged horse and name it Ashura.

But i do not see what the fruit would give Zoro except for mobility.
Can you elaborate on what special abilities the Sleipnir fruit can have?

Also Zoro mobility problems are Oda made, not genuinely a weakness he will overcome imo. Its the same reason why Sanji has Ass range attacks despite rankyaku, arguably a way easier technique to learn than geppo for sanji, exists

Which is a wasted opportunity in my opinion. Maybe not for the wings because I think people want to stay fruitless but It would have been interesting to see a weaker straw hat eat a fruit and learn to use it over the course of the story. You don't even have to change their fighting style, just have it being complemented by the fruit. Like have an element based fruit for Nami making use of her knowledge to work in tandem with Zeus (as we see with Ragnir/Loki in last chapter) or something like the Door Door fruit for Usopp (basically allowing Usopp an escape route when cornered in close range while having to rely on his sniping skills and gadgets for the offense)
I believe it would have added a breath of fresh air for characters that have started to become stale after a thousand of chapters, but that's just how I see it.

I agree, I will go even further, I would have liked it if Sanji ate a DF. I always liked, and still like the idea ever since Oda introduced the idea sanji CAN use his hands, but doesn't use to, then he can use swords but doesnt, learning Rokushiki, haki, then Germa abilities, producing heat, and so on, that he would just acquire anything he needed to be stronger with no Limits
Also i think it's one of the opinions that goes across all fandoms, be it casual or otherwise, that Devil Fruits are one of the coolest aspects of one piece.
And i know this point is lost on some people who read only spoilers or skim through the pages (@ZenZu 😭) but visually (depends obviously on the DF, not everyone can be a banger), they are way more interesting.

We always heard in East Blue, and the early part of Grandline, how rare DFs are, and the crews that made it in the Grandline ate one of the most powerful ones. The further you progress the more powerful the fruit. It would have been kino if we then saw the situation arise in the Strawhats themself
But alas its too late, I think. The only thing I can see it usopp almost dying, and they feed him a df on Elbaf to rescue him, but it sounds so gigacope, I'm already doubting it, typing it out

Zoro's next PU is him taming his inner spirit of death, the grim reaper.
His Asura spirit is his determination to reach the WSS title, while the Grim Reaper is his inner trauma and inner fear of failure. Zoro fears not living up to his promise with Kuina and Luffy and dying an ignoble death like Kuina's. He needs to overcome this inner spirit of his and make it one of his deadly blades like Asura.

Since it has 8 legs Zoro can use 5 swords and will still have 4 legs in hybrid mode. A giant Mythical Zoan gives Zoro speed and immense power, it can also travel to nine dimensions which is suited for KOH. It has immense speed, can run on water and air. Well it is up to Zoro to become more creative with it but these are my reasons. 
Also Zoros training was about battling animals who can use weapons, even Mihawk said if animals can use weapons they will be so strong just like how Sanji defeated his brothers without exoskeleton. Sanji who become stronger without exoskeleton awakened his exoskeleton and with same logic Zoro who became strong as animals without Zoan will eat a Zoan DF. It is also interesting Zoro fought an awakened zoan user Lucci without one. Sleipnir DF can help Zoros concept of Ashura and King of Hell at the same time, it can also give him stronger hands and 2 more swords, giantification, speed, flight etc... What more Zoro needs.

But reading you I thought that Myrhical Zoan model: Odin will be more suitable for Zoro.
But let see what Oda will do.
