I mean how on earth can you be on par with someone who has top tier physical abilities, advanced CoA, advanced CoO(he was able to sense Ace attacking him in his sleep), and on top of that has one of the strongest DFs in the series. Many have said that it was his haki that allowed him to compete with whitebeard, but that clearly isn't the case as they seemed to be about equal in terms of haki. But beyond that you have the gura gura no mi which is by far one of the strongest DFs.
The Gura Gura no mi is such an insane power when you realize that Whitebeard who by all means should have had DF awakening, never utilized his awakening. Every technique he used was able to be replicated by blackbeard the moment blackbeard obtained the fruit, meaning that Whitebeard was only using the fruit's base abilities. This is a truly terrifying thought knowing what we do about the base abilities of the Gura Gura no mi. When Sengoku said that whitebeard had the ability to destroy the world, I think many people thought he was hyperbolizing, but with the revelations of devil fruit awakening, I think its very clear to see that Whitebeard is indeed a world ender.
So how could Roger even have competed with such a man? I think the answer lies in Uranus. From chapter zero, we know that Roger had an ancient weapon. Shirahoshi obviously wasn't born yet and I don't think it makes much sense for the Orojackson to be pluton, as Tom never wanted to build pluton. Hence I think that the only possible weapon he could have had was Uranus.
What could Uranus be? Its hard to guess until we get more info but judging from chapter zero, I think you can make a pretty good case to say that Uranus is a weather manipulation ability or device. Its an unbelievable coincidence that a storm happened to come by and save the Roger pirates while utterly destroying Shiki. Especially when you consider that Shiki was at the time on a similar level that the yonko are of present times and that New world veterans have never shown to face extremely difficulty due to turbulent weather, which is a norm in both paradise and the new world. This storm was clearly unnatural.
that and I think its oddly coincidental that you have a character like Monkey D Dragon who is a D, has been paralleled to Roger(his son and Roger's son were brothers), and also happens to have storm abilities.
I theorize that Uranus is the strongest devil fruit in existence. This is because not only does Uranus have base abilities that far surpass the scope of most of the other DFs, it also doesn't have standard devil fruit weaknesses. the holder of Uranus can swim, isn't weakened by sea stone, can't have their abilities taken away by the yami yami no mi, can eat another devil fruit alongside Uranus , and can pass on the power of Uranus to another successor without dying.
With such an ability, Roger would be a world ender, just like whitebeard, allowing him to take on the full power of the Gura Gura no mi.
