Even the databooks showed how Zoro is a "Vice Captain like" swordsman.
Moreover, I still remember how different pirates Zoro came across showed their awe for noticing that Zoro was not the captain and genuinely admit they would even have thought that he actually was, and also asserted, because of his strenght.
So that's even beyond "vice captain like".

It aint like its a that controversial take. Jinbe is definitely more than suited for the role from what weve seen of him
It aint even like i said hes the second strongest after luffy and it'll stay that way. Mainly cause i don't believe that. Zoro, sanji, and potentially yamato if he joins will all surpass him imo when it comes to strength

Its not a controversial take, i agree. its just a stupid one
Jinbe can do everything zoro could and then some when it comes to the role. Zoro will grow stronger but other than that nothing really puts him over jinbe when it comes to leading and advising.

- In wci when it came to allying with capone and then leading the sunny team with luffy and sanji away
- Even now on onigashima neither zoro or sanji has done something he didn't when it comes to straight leading
- Hes with sanji leading luffy to kaido
- Zoro, franky, and him all essentially said the same thing to drake and luffy
- He didn't randomly leave the crew to get lost or go on hoe patrol. Tho both admittedly lead to good things
- And man at least worked with the crew to get big mom out

I dont think anyone in the crew besides luffy has shown anything that puts them above jinbe when it comes to strength specifically. At the same time if they aren't already due to enma and the raid suit i do think zoro and sanji will surpass him
