As funny as the whole "hiding behind Buggy's shadow" thing is (which we knew) it looks like Oda might actually make Mihawk a character
Right now his fanbase is made up of like 99% Zoro fans
With a bit of character development + Cross Guild taking action he'll finally stand alone as his own character independent of Zoro
That was always my main critique of Mihawk so hopefully this goes well

This is pre shanks backstory as well
So before his duels with shanks that WE NEED TO SEE
There how he grew up
Why he was famous when Roger died
Why was he marine hunter
Who betrayed him
He hasn't closed everyone off
He gets along with shanks
Extreme duels tell him he can trust shanks
With all this to come ain't no one gonna be able to call mihawk bland
Zoro doesn't even have this intrigue

Zoro never visited Ryuma's grave and his family history was given in an SBS
If Oda went through Mihawk's entire story from start to finish I would be genuinely surprised
If he did I could see Mihawk becoming a lot more popular though. Right now he's only seen as a stepping stone for Zoro but he could become his own standalone character with a full backstory and an actual role
Dunno what that role would be but it would be a lot better if he was a bit more active in the story

Characters who have already climbed the summit, achieved their goals can be really interesting if written right and I still have some faith in Oda with Mihawk.

I am on record saying final war is skypia 2
Where I expected zoro to have 2 fights as he did in skypia
So strongest priest and either adult shawk or an admiral
So zoro doesn't have to face an individual on mihawks level but 2 strong people in the same arc its last war arc so it will be fine
If luffy fights shanks zoro fights Benn
When luffy fights bb zoro fights shiryu
Shiryu is zoros coo training to reach the shanks mihawk coo levels
Also in mihawk favour that's not in shanks or bbs is buggy buggy is falling up through the ranks from warlord to yonko to pk like he said
Buggy be seen as pk imo.
You could make the sh dreams start being realised near the same time.
