this comment actually made me spit my drink They can still be connected. Something caused him to hunt Marines in the past, and something caused him to stop.
It's become pretty intriguing though, because he went from holding a grudge against the Marines, and hunting them, to becoming a Warlord so they wouldn't hunt him.
The betrayal might hold the key as to why.

It's only because of oda giving Luffy everything, he already proved he can face off against him shown as he dodging, blocking and not getting one shotted like a certain bum

Zoro was also betrayed by the Marines for his first appearance in the series.
I wonder if Oda will use that as a parallel. Maybe Mihawk was in a position similar to the one Zoro was in Shell’s Town, only where Zoro had Luffy to save him, Mihawk had no-one (or the ones who did save him were killed, like a Rika figure murdered by the Marines).

Yeah, Oda should be giving us Mihawks backstory about a betrayal and hunting Marines instead the origin of Devil Fruits, the History of the World, the Gorosei revelations, Garp making a move, Blackbeard making a move, Kuma's backstory thats directly tied to the Celestial Dragons, Ancient technology from the Void Century, Giants from Elbaf making a move etc.... etc... We've only waited 25 years to finally get to this point, but he should pad it out longer, because Mihawk was betrayed and mad at the Marines, so that's what we should be getting...
