It's not headcanon
BM doesn't force her kids to be SC
We know Perospero wanna be the captain even though he knows he's weaker than Katakuri
If you think someone worth 700M and rivaled Marco, who could fight Sulong Duke to stalemate, who trashed Pedro and can easily beat 2 sulong members ,
isn't strong to be SC, then I'm sorry for you
Does Oda even realizes that throwing characters such as Ace and Oden down our throats and trying to make us believe that they were far more awesome than they actually are doesn't make them more likeable ?
If he was strong enough, Linlin would’ve promoted him. It’s really that simple. The fact he tries to be captain through means not of his own strength but sibling seniority kinda reinforces the fact he’s not a top fighter
An Emperor called him "strong", an Admiral equally clashed with him and he defeated multiple Warlords & stalemated with Yamato as a Rookie...
Ace is legit. The dude has logia powers that can wipe an island off the map.
For all his impressive skills, Kata was reduced to another commander of Big Mom alongside Cracker. I dont think he can match the sheer scale of what a Warlord/Warlord candidate can do.
The clash at Banaro was between two people who could've become the PK in another timeline.
Well only one piece fandom has this misconception that two rivals must be necessarily close to each other in strength, because actually the shonen panorama is full of unbalanced rivalries and One Piece too doesn’t make an exception frankly

+1 a guy joining kaidou because of the monster's strength, while the marine soldiers try to escape from Marineford because they don't trust Lakainu to deal with a dead corpse like WB.
